Acid waste can be disposed by either dilution in adding the acid to copious amounts of water (example: teaspoon per gallon) or can be neutralized by using baking soda which is a mild base and counter agent.

I wouldn't advise that you treat any waste acid via neutralization. You could create an exothermic reaction and be seriously hurt. Instead contact your local city, county or municipality to ask them to manage this hazardous waste for you. There is typically a household hazardous waste day where the public can bring in waste for disposal at no cost. If available use this opportunity.

I can teach u how to neutralize it the way Mother nature does it.
Example HCL a very bad acid .
Caustic soda a very bad base.
Mix together to a PH 7
If u are good you could drink it.
You have table salt and water .
Nature does this with all acids and is the reason the oceans are salty.

In our community, acid waste is disposed off at a HazMat collection site.

Slightly off subject here, I was researching a Haz waste topic and learned that in certain states, it's prohibited for homeowners to neutralize their own Haz Waste for disposal. Before adding any chemicals ~ it might be prudent to call your city's Public Works department and check the law in your state.

You don't mention what kind of acid is, but in general you should add some Sodium or Potassium Hydroxide in order to neutralize it and making a salt, this salt could be reused in other chemical or industrial process, may be you can sell it. The chemical reaction to neutralize the acid must be performed into an inert container (stainless steel ?), there is another process to handle your salt, but at least, this could be productive.

The usual answer for small amounts of acid at home is to mix it with enough baking soda to neutralize it and then pour it down the drain with lots of water. It is neutralized when it doesn't fizz when more baking soda is added.
