I am a diabetic and my reading is usually about 7-8, after 8 hours fasting ( sorry, cant remember the unit on my tester). As this is a borderline case, I had actually stop my medication for a year already, and the reading is still the same (does not go up). This is because I control the intake of sweet food like sugar, candy, chocolate, cookies, cakes and so on. I love fruit but always afraid of taking too much of them as many are sweet like grape, apple, pears, papaya, waternelon (very sweet), honeydew (very sweet). Are such fruits detrimental to a diabetic's well being?

Not at all. Fruit is very good for you, but you need to look at the number of carbs for each serving and not have too much. Apples, for example, are better than watermelon (more fiber) and blueberries are great for you.
It all comes down to portions and carbohydrate counts. BTW - better to EAT fruit than drink the juice! The more fiber your food has, the better it is for you and the less your blood sugar will spike.

Good luck and enjoy your fruit!

it's correct that fruit is good for you n important in your diet, but some fruits are v high in sugar and juice is extremely high. Stay away from fruit juice. Diff fruits contain diff amounts of carbs n it doesn't always follow how it tastes - cherry tommatoes taste v sweet but won't affect your blood sugars at all! All berries are low carb, as is melon (all kinds - i know they taste sweet but doesn't mean they'll affect your blood sugar!). Apples and pears are mid range, mangos (anoyingly my favorite lol!) and grapes are v high. Sorry I don't like papaya v much so dunno about it lol! There's a good book - colins gem calorie counter - that's cheep and gives you the carbs in heaps of foods - try workin out how much carb you're eating for a week - it will involve weighing everything and keepin a diary so is a hassel but you'll learn a lot! I have type 1 and use an insulin pump which means carb counting is my life lol - i know most things in my head now but that's how I learned! Good luck - hope your diabetes control keeps going so well :) xxxx

15 grapes are 15 carbs. 1 apple is 15 carbs and so is 1 peach. 1 orange is higher...like 25. I don't eat a lot of papaya.. I don't know about that one. Watermelon is a good fruit because it is ALMOST but not quite free.

If you're low, 15 grapes or and apple will bring you right back up.

i have never head of this 7-8 thing. borderline i hope is 100 or less? if its higher then get to speciliast and do something. i had for years a doctor tell me oh you are just borderline and that is how the liver, heart etc can mess up cause sugar can harm them organs. you can get with diet and do right and it won't harm you and keep it right if you are watching close. fruit is good for you and fine just don't over due nothing. they are good for you and great for diabetic. vegs are also very good to.

grapes are good but only about ten at a time ,small apple doesnt hurt watermelon you can have a cup at the time and catelope even though melons are sweet and high in carbs it is mainly water in which doesnt stay in you system long enough to have an inpact on your sugar levels so enjoy that melon you just dont want to over do it.

Diabetics can eat anything in moderation. Eat fruit but be careful.
