The only way to cure PID is to cure the underlying infection that is causing it. In many cases, it is Chlamydia; therefore, if you cure the chlamydia (and prevent subsequent reinfection), then you will cure the PID. Another user pointed out that there are many causes of PID. This is true. If you cure the Chlamydia, but you also happen to have bacterial vaginosis (Gardnerella) at the same time, the BV can persist and you'll still have PID because of it. BV and Chlamydia are cured with different antibiotics. You need to cure both to cure the PID.

HOWEVER, if your reproductive organs are damaged by scar tissue accumulated during a long bout of PID, the antibiotics will NOT correct that scarring. If you have too much scar tissue, you may be permanently infertile (even if the PID itself goes away).

ADDENDUM: WTF is up with the hatin' today? The antibiotic WILL cure the PID because it will cure the infection that's inflaming the reproductive tract. PID is mreely the INFLAMMATORY complication of the infection. I have read enough literature to know I'm right on this one. But if you really disagree with me, then post a better answer.

There are lots of different infections assosiated with PID, I would say go and get a test. Just tell the doctor or family planning clinic your symptoms and they will do a quick swab test, which doesn't hurt. Often they will just post you a prescription for any treatment needed, or leave it to collect at reception.
