Good: high protein, high in B12 and iron.

Bad: Excessive intake can lead to constipation and excessive protein can damage the kidneys. Meat usually contains high animal fats and that can damage the heart. There may also be risk of infectious disease through bacteria or parasites especially if the meat is not thoroughly cooked. There may be chances of exposure to environmental contaminants. Some people believe a diet high in meat poses a great risk for cancer--this view is somewhat controversial.

For the guy who said "you never see an elderly vegetarian" I say, go to India and you'll see lots of them. My wife's family is from India. Her mother is in her 80s and doing well. Her grandfather died at 96. Two uncles died recently and both were in their 80s. Another uncle and his wife are both doing well and both are over 80. This uncle has a habit of standing on his head. I'm 30 years younger and I never could do that. Another aunt is doing well in her 80s. My wife's spiritual leader recently celebrated his 89th birthday. All of these people; vegetarians.

My wife's father died of a heart attack and stroke at the age of 55--guess what, he ate meat. One of my brother's in law had a heart attack a a few years ago, he's about 55, and he eats meat. Another sister in law is battling cancer in her 50s, she eats meat. None of my wife's family who are vegetarian have any major health problems except the ones who are over 70.

I am a 50 year old male lacto vegetarian; I guess I am pale but so are other people in my family (and all of them eat meat). I'm kind of fat but I'm also pretty muscular because I lift weights. My beard is gray but my face has no wrinkles. I had gray hair since I was 17, which was ten years before I became vegetarian. I rarely get sick or have colds. Most people who see me would probably say I look like a wrestler or a biker.

White meat is generally low in fat compared to red meat. You get white meat from poultry and pork.

Red meat comes from beef.

All meat provides your body with protein which is needed to maintain muscle tissue. Red meat does this a little better. If you are trying to BUILD muscle tissue, go with red meat.

Choleserol and fat are byproducts of meat eating. Fat is not something that should be removed completely from your diet so, eating reasonable serving sizes regularly shouldn't be a problem. Inotherwords, don't challenge yourself to eat that porterhouse or 16 ounce ribeye.

Red meat fibers tend to collect in your digestive system which can render it less effective at not only digesting foods but absorbing nutrients from whatever foods you eat. Fortunately for meat eaters, there are supplements that are designed to "Cleanse" your digestive tracts.

Meats have a balance of both good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, so you always have to consider which meats are the most healthy, but you have to do that with most foods.

Finally, there's fish. Fish does all of the good that white meat does and provides better protein. Fish also have lots of other good things like Vitamin E and fish oils which are fantastic for your body.

There is some fear that an all fish diet is unhealthy. That, I don't know, but to have two to four servings a week couldn't be a bad thing.

You HAVE to get protein. I recommend that you do it the natural way, by eating meats, because when it comes time for your body to produce children, you will run a very high risk of causing a permanent injury to yourself or a permanent disability to your unborn child.

All meats are bad now starting with the mad cow diseases, bovine virus, pesticides, and food coloring. Cooking meats at a high temperature causes fatty tran oils that contributes to heart problems and grilling causes cancer cariogens in meats. Prevent bad health and Go Vegan!!! :)
