The Appalachian Mountains are by far my favorite. I've been backpacking in all the ranges within the continental US, and none can compare in beauty, to me. I love the thick, almost jungle-like forests and the many colors. They are so old, almost mystical, and "feel" so alive. Did you know that within the borders of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there are more different types of plant life than anywhere else in North America? That is why the park was designated an International Biosphere Preserve, the only one in the US. Every mountain range has something wonderful to offer, but I love the Appalachians simply because they touch something deep in my psyche and fill me with wonderment.

I've hiked into most of the Rockies from new Mexico to Montana, some of the Sierras, the Tetons and all of the eastern ranges (Adirondacks, Appalachians, Smokies, etc.) but my favorites would have to be the Sawtooth in central Idaho for unspoiled beauty, grandeur and spectacular trails.

(I'm checking out the mountains of the Pacific Northwest this Fall so maybe I'll change my mind...)

Too hard to say...There's so many yet to explore. I'd like to see the Appalachians do some hiking and camping, and there's the Rockies... I'd love to see what John Denver meant by "fire in the sky", and of course the Sierra Nevadas.
