The Post-Punk-Kitchen does this recipe for "spicy tempeh rolls". They steam the tempeh, mash it up, mix with vegan mayonnaise, and then roll it up in a sushi roll. Looks pretty good. http://www.theppk.com/recipes/dbrecipes/index.php?RecipeID=100
PPK is the cutest cooking show ever. I love it.
Usually, though, if I don't feel like frying tempeh, I put it in the oven for a while, until it's golden. It's just so delicious. It has a texture kind of like chicken fingers if you cook and cut it right.

Try this
BARBECUED TEMPEH BURGERS
2 (8 oz.) pkg. tempeh, thawed
1 c. Salsa-Style Grilling Sauce or medium-hot prepared salsa
2 c. low-calorie Russian dressing
8 whole wheat burger buns, split
Lettuce leaves, sprouts and sliced red onion rings for garnish
Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Separate the tempeh squares. Cover a large baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the 8 squares of tempeh on it. In a small bowl, combine grilling sauce or salsa and Russian dressing. Spread half the sauce liberally over the tempeh.
Bake for 30 minutes, then turn tempeh over and spread with remaining sauce. Bake 15 more minutes, then transfer to a preheated grill. Grill 10 minutes, or until lightly browned, basting with extra sauce. Toast the buns, then fill each with tempeh and sauce. Garnish with lettuce, sprouts and onion. Serves 8.

2 cups vegetable broth with some ginger, a dash of sesame/soybean oil mix, garlic, soya sauce and add some noodles and vegetables. Braise for thirty minutes in a deep-dish saucepan over moderate heat. Thicken with cornstarch. Serve over rice with a nice sunomono salad on the side and fresh spinach and bok choy.

I like it to be cooked with soya sauce and ketchup with a few pieces of firm beancurd. Use shallots and garlic to enhance the flavour. This combination is really good.
Enjoy!

You can crumble it into a chili in place of meat. Or you can marinate it and grill it. I love my grill pan for that very reason.
