Here's the bottom line: you can use patches or gum or pills or magic or whatever - but until you WANT to quit ... want it badly ... it's wasted effort.
The way to quit is to want it. Envision your life smoke free, and toss them out.
You have to want it like you've never wanted anything before.

Here's how I did it (one month, no smokes!). I broke my leg in several places and subsequently spent a week in the hospital for surgery and recovery. During that time I was unable to leave my bed, therefore I chewed Nicorette 2mg Fruit Chill gum (it actually tastes pretty good). Soon after I was released, I broke out a cigarette and lit up. Truthfully, it tasted like ****. So I decided to chew the gum whenever I had a craving. Now I find myself chewing the gum less and less and having less cravings. Last time I quit (cold turkey and it didn't last long), I developed a horrible attitude during those first few weeks, but this time it was a lot easier. Now I'm not telling you to go out there, get really wasted (Jager), and fall off a third story balcony like I did; but the gum really did help and I would recommend it to anyone. Give it a shot.
Best of Luck!!!

I've smoked for 30 years, yes I said 30 and I am currently on my 19th day completely cigarette free and I am gonna do it this time because I want to. I went to my doctor and got a prescription for this new pill called CHANTRIX. The proof is in my 19 days. I tried the patches, the gum, losenges, support groups and other gimmicks only to fail. 19 days is like a miracle so I know I will do it this time but it was Chantrix that made it possible. Good Luck to you. Believe me if I can do it you can too!

You first have to WANT to quit. I am on day 10 being smoke free. I have been taking Chantix by Pfizer for about 3 weeks. It works to block the high that you get from nicotine but adds NO nicotine to your system. My husband and I decided to do it together and it is working so far. Don't get me wrong, we still get a urge to smoke but it passes really fast. Most health insurances pay for this prescription. They say it is 80% effective.

I smoked for 10 years and I had "tried" to quit maybe twice befor but right now I am smoke free for almost 8 months and the way that I quit honetly is to just stop. I tried nicotine gum but it didnt work for me I just had to come to an agreement with myself that i wont smoke. Im done. I quit. I will not smoke. etc... and then just dont do it it sounds dumb but when you get into that mind set that you are a strong person who is done smoking then it works

ask your family doctor for help. There is a new drug made by Pfizer called Chantix, it has had a very high success rate at helping people quit smoking, some patients have even made remarks they forgot they even smoked after beginining this drug and it helped them with their mood, no crankiness, no attitude..
make an appt with your doctor, ask him if Chantix is right for you.
hope this helps.

I'm not sure if it works or not but my dr says it does,CHANTIX it's a new helper drug. I haven't started yet but they have a web site at chantix.com and a support team. ck it out. I know some insurence co. cover it (not mine) and wal-mart its 130.00. it stops the mood thing. I'm on co2 24/7 so we all need to throw the cigs out. It couldn't happen to me.Ya right.

try to stay calm and relaxed at all times.
i know it may seem impossible, but you have to try.
this is creating a very negative impact on your family, especially if you have young kids or siblings in your family.
my dad smokes, and we tell him to stop and he promises he will, but all the stress that goes on his life, its impossible.
but smokers have to stop.
light a nice-scented candle that will warm up your mood and calm you, and then just lounge on the sofa and relax and maybe take a nap, and think of the positive things in life, and the things you want to do and your future.
a lot of people lose their futures because of smoking.
always look on the brightside.
good luckk :]

Have you asked your Doctor for a mild sedative to get you over the first few weeks?
