don't know where you are located - but i think giving her a party is a sweet idea! your aunt was probably either into disco music or early heavy metal - so why don't you throw a retro party? find out from your mom or dad which of the two types of music she was into and go from there. you could even ask the guests to dress to match the theme and hold a "old school" dance contest. talk to your other relatives who are around your aunt's age (or moms and dads of your friends) to find out what kind of food was typical to eat in their crowd after going to a concert or a disco. let me know where you're from and i can provide you with more details of some food ideas and sources for music.
i hope you enjoy the plannning and your aunt will certainly appreciate the effort you made to make her birthday extra-special!

My oldest sister is 50 and she likes 70s & 80s music, especially 70s. As for food, I would just have the usual simple birthday food, finger foods, such as sandwiches, chips, dip, peanuts and of course cake and ice cream.
The big 5-0 is a big deal, so buy her something really nice. Maybe get her a day out to get her nails done, go to the spa, get a massage, that sort of thing.

For colors, pick anything but black. For a theme, you could do the era she was a teenager. Not just music, but even TV shows like Leave It To Beaver or something. For the food, do you know (or is it possible to ask) her mother what her favorite foods were and share recipes? Or even reinvent those 60's foods and make them a bit more gourmet?

veggies, fruit, yogurt, buy some Elvis Presley songs she would probably enjoy that, and get some movies like "A Night to Remember" a story about the Titanic the true one in Black & White not the newer one with Leonardo DiCaprio and color.

For my 50th I had a birthday brunch. Different types of quiches, lox, and bagels, coffee, tea, mimosas and bloody Mary's, fruit salad, and a "cake" made up of different kinds of donuts.
It was a lot of fun.
