For a 14th birthday party

Beach Bash and Bonfire
Starts in the afternoon, continues until about 10pm. There will be lots of food to eat in addition to S'mores.

I'd hate to have no form of "cake" or something to put candles in. Any ideas? Some adults spike a watermelon--could I put sprite or martinellis sparkling cider in a watermelon? How would I do this?

Thanks.

The watermelon is a good idea, to go about doing that you put a whole in the outer shell of the watermaelon and you pour the drink (w/e you would like) into the whole. stop the whole back up the piece you had taken out to begin with and let it sit till the party, it would be a good idea ot keep it refrigerated. ;) have a wonderfull party!

i seem to remember something a little fun from a camping trip when i was a kid.
we cut the tops of oranges, pulled out the fruit, filled with cake batter (like duncan hines) and put the top back on. Wrap in foil and toss it on the fire grate...have to move them around a bit but they were delicious. You could always make one ahead of time.. put a candle in it and then let the other kids do their own. Or..just put candles in the bowl of oranges and then show them what to do after...maybe let them eat the fruit after a long hot day at the beach and then make the cakes after dusk when the fire starts. Just a thought.

Anyway..you can put candles in anything. You can always fashion some sparkler candles around the platter of s'mores for that matter.

Pies, large cookies, ice cream or muffins. To spike a watermelon, cut a hole in the top of the mellon the size of the neck of a bottle of vodka. Insert the bottle in the hole to start emptying into the melon. Put the mellon, with the inserted bottle in the refrigerator. Allow to chill overnight. Remove the drained bottle the next day, slice and serve.

You could make or buy cupcakes instead of a cake. Say there's going to be about 50 people at the party and the birthday person will only be about 30 yrs old.....well hey, you not only have enough cupcakes to put the candles in but also enough cupcake for everyone and less hassle of cleaning. OR you could go with the watermelon idea! I like that idea! ☺

you can also spike a pineapple the same way as the watermelon.

you could also buy Island Way Sorbet from Costco. It is sorbet put into half a coconut shell, orange half, pineapple half, and lemon half. They are small, about the size of cupcakes. Really cute for a Hawaiian or beach party.

Martha Stewart's web site may have ideas to help you.I saw her show once where she baked cakes in little tin pails for a beach party. She had shells made of chocolate and crushed nuts for sand etc. Check out her web site.

Ask the adults that spike the watermelon to do yours first. They do it with a big syringe I suppose. Have fun!

there is a great cupcake holder I saw. Its in a tiered shape. You could put a candle on each cupcake and much easier to serve.
