When the doc tells me I gotta take a blood pressure test my hearts starts beating really fast and hard, sometimes I start sweating and my eyes get blood shot red plus my face gets red. The doc first told me I had high blood pressure when I was in 10th grade, my reading was like 145/85 and ever since then I have had a great fear of measuring my blood pressure. Im really confused, and no I cannot take the home test....its not the doc that scares me...its taking my blood pressure that scares me. I want it to be low so bad that I get really nervous, anyways it ranges from 120-70 to 215-110....recently it was 195/100. I get more nervous when I take my blood pressure then I do when I make a public speech. I think my real blood pressure is around 140/85 which is still high. I eat very badly, like 6 double cheeseburgers an

So can extreme stress make ones BP raise say 30 points or more....isnt there night time cuffs I can wear when I sleep to see what my real blood pressure is? Thanks

I had a problem with high blood pressure about 3 months ago. My highest was 160/100, so trust me, I understand it completely. My family has a history of high blood pressure, so no matter what I do, I am always at risk for it. Here is what I did to lower my blood pressure, maybe it can help you.

1. No caffeine
2. Lowered Sodium intake. No more than 1500mg a day. You can't cut sodium out completely. Your body needs sodium to function.
3. Add Fish to diet. Fish contains Omega-3, which is essential to a healthy heart
4. Fish Oil Tablets. This is recommended by all doctors for a healthy heart.
5. More Fruit and Vegetables
6. If you are overweight, lose the extra weight
7. Drink orange juice

That helped lower my blood pressure from 160/100 to 125/80 in three months. I honestly hope that it helps you. High Blood pressure is no fun.

Try buying a blood pressure monitor you can use at home, and then when you use it, watch tv or find something to distract you from the fact that you are having your blood pressure taken.

Your diet may also have something to do with it. If you eat a lot of fast food, that's a lot of sodium, which raises your blood pressure. So you may want to consider cutting back on the cheeseburgers and pizza and eat more fruits and veggies. You probably don't want to hear that, do you?

If the doctors think you have a phobia of doctors that causes your blood pressure to spike, you might want to ask if there is anything you can do before the visit to alleviate those symptoms.

By the way, a blood pressure of 120/70 is relatively normal. The systolic number (the top number) is borderline high, but 70 is a normal diastolic number.

I got high blood too. mine ranges abt 130/90 sometimes 140/100, but my specialist doc said recently its improved cos its stayed around 130/80
improve your diet ... take some more fruits & vegetables, like much on an apple once or twice a week as a snack
jus get yourself used to measuring your own blood pressure. there are watch like cuffs that you can get for real time monitoring but they're not gonna be cheap in the long run. just put the cuffs on & think of sth else to distract you when its measuring. after a while you'll get used to it.
all things contribute to high blood (thats what my doc says) stress, diet, lifestyle, even heritage.
Take care of yourself

You can get a ambulatory blood pressure monitor from your MD in which it will monitor your blood pressure for at least 24hrs including when you are asleep.

If you are really this worried about your health then it might not hurt to change your diet and life style habits.

Insist on a holter monitor. That will be taking your blood pressure for at least 24 hours and you won't even know when it is doing it! Please do this for your health! Your blood pressure is high....white coat syndrome or not!

Well.....here's your sign....6 double cheeseburgers etc....???????????...are you kidding me???? I imagine your cholesterol must be pretty high too....HOLY COW!...you need to change your diet, not good at your age. How we eat as kids even sets us up for adult years. You need more fish (not fried), chicken (no skin),veggies, fruit, NO SODA.....soda=sugar, sugar=weight gain. Did your doctor tell you you have hypertension?...I imagine if you make a drastic change in diet that may make a difference. You want to be around for awhile so get to eating better okay???

Billy....just because you are tall and thin don't think you can get away with eating whatever you want..it catches up with you as you are seeing. ...change your diet okay?....you are way too young to have this going on.

See ypu doctor. you should be on meds.

ew thats gross. I don't know how you could eat all that junk food. Your cholestrol is going to sky rocket if it hasn't already! You should talk to your doctor about going on bp med's. Maybe Toprol XL will help for you. That isn't good to have your bp that high.
