In women, untreated infection can spread into the uterus or fallopian tubes and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). This happens in up to 40 percent of women with untreated chlamydia. PID can cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and surrounding tissues. The damage can lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus). Women infected with chlamydia are up to five times more likely to become infected with HIV, if exposed.

Chlamydia is not usually implicted in UTI's. Usually, UTI's are from E. coli (not the kind that make your stomach sick, but natural E. coli from your own bowels).

Chlamydia does not cause ovarian cysts. Those are usually caused by a hormonal abnormality.

Chlamydia CAN lead to infertility, though. It can progress without symptoms and become pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID causes scar tissue to form in the reproductive tract, clogging it up so that eggs cannot be fertilized, or if they are, they have no place to implant.

If you have been diagnosed with chlamydia, take the antibiotics the doc gives you, and send your partner to get treated, too. People can get chlamydia over and over again through reinfection. It's important to cure BOTH sexual partners and adopt condom use to prevent the infection.
