I'm not sure. Maybe it's because of all of the subsidies soy gets?
Soy milk was probably just one of the first dairy alternatives on the market, so it's more established.
My current favourite kind of milk is this brown basmati rice milk made in Canada. It's like drinking perfumed sunshine. Mmm.

I've grown up on soy milk and always drank it even before I was vegan. I've tried rice milk before and hated the taste. Nut milk is something I've never tried though. I've never seen it either. But I suppose soy milk is the most popular because it's the easiest to fine and has different varieties like chocolate and vanilla.

If you don't like soy milk, don't drink it. I rarely drink soy milk; I usually use it just for baking and cooking. When I have cereal, I just put enough soy milk to dampen the cereal. Many soy milks are fortified with calcium, but other plant milks may not be (check the label).
I think it also has to do with the fact that many soy milks have a creamier texture than rice or nut milks.

There are so many different brands, varieties and flavours available that maybe you just haven't tasted one you like yet. There are only a few brands that I like and I will use use different brands for different purposes (So Good in coffee and on cereal, chocolate Vitasoy to drink straight, generic brand in cooking). I was allergic to dairy as a child so my mother used to make soy milk before it was in the shops. I guess I like the ones that look more white than beige and don't have too much oil or malt added to them. Rice milk is OK too but I never buy it.

Personally, I don't drink milk because I hate the taste. I've tried soymilk and rice milk, both taste a lot better than regular milk.

I am allergic to Dairy. Not lactose intolerant allergic to Casein. Which is the Protien in Milk.
Since changing to non-dairy "milks" I have learned of the horrible conditions of Dairy Farming.
I like White Wave soy milk ,but turns out I can't tolerate soy either.. I do a Non-gluten Rice Milk.

I've grown up on soy my whole life since I had really bad asthma as a kid. I never really had rice milk, it was always just soy, so I guess that's just what I'm use to. But I hate rice milk, especially all the grittiness at the bottom of the container if you dont shake it enough!

I'm gonna take a guess at the idea of it having so much protein. And when most people switch they feel they need to make equal choices for the substitutes! And even though it's not the same amount of protein as cow's milk, it's definitely more than rice and nuts milks.

LOL @ veganjackass(though I must disagree with his statement about soy being bad...)
It's all personal choice... I always hated cows milk. I tried soymilk... and I didn't mind it(though I did think it tasted a little like a cardboard box at first) I got used to it... and now it is all I know... I love it now :]... Maybe that's why I didn't like rice milk when I tried it after I already was addicted to soymilk. To me it had like a weird oiliness to it...and it left me with a funky after-taste... again, it's all about personal choice.

that's a good question - maybe because soy has just become such an automatic choice for meat alternative (i.e. tofu for meat)?
But if you notice, rice milk is slowly starting to creep its way into mainstream markets as well.
I wish nut milks were more common, though. Have you ever tried hazelnut milk? It's so good - it's like a dessert all by itself!
