The cilantro and fresh basil are indigestible. Everything is flooded with coconut milk. It stinks of cooked garbage, especially shrimp dishes. The ground pork tastes uncooked. They put peanuts in satays and the pad Thai is hard to chew. They also use bean sprouts. The noodles taste undercooked and the rice is sticky and lumpy. Everything has too much garlic and weird dishes with tomatoes, potatoes and oranges together.

I love Japanese tea and sushi houses, Vietnamese cuisine and Chinese buffets. I don't mind some good Indian food now and then. But I hate Thai food. Only like the jasmine tea, beer and sake.

Weird stuff like banana leaves, tamarind pulp and pomegranate seeds and juice. I can enjoy a mango lassi. This stuff we serve in the restaurant is gross.

It's not against Thai people. They are kind and lovely. Nice language, nice music, nice people. I just hate their food. Some Japanese hate North American food. I don't get mad.

Because life doesn't revolve around you.

Thai food is considered "good" by several million people. So while you may not like it, others do.

I think you should give Thai food another shot. I'm not a cilantro fan myself but I just take it off if it's in something. When I first tried it I just thought it was OK... Now I eat it once or twice a week! And not everything is flooded in coconut milk...

Thai food is, in my opinion, the freshest Asian food can get. It's like the Asian fast food because the actual cooking is so fast. I'm Asian and I think Thai is my favorite out of all... It's like a mixture of Indian and Eastern Asian cuisine. It's very healthy, not flooded in grease and oil. It combines a lot of different ingredients but they all go together well. Maybe the restaurant you go to isn't as good? We live in LA so there are amazing Thai restaurants everywhere and of course Thai town...

To answer your question precisely, I think one reason Thai food is popular is because it's spicy. In many countries, the available choices are all so bland that Thai food is an adventure. The other reason, of course, is that people have a different response to the flavors you mentioned...cilantro, basil, coconut...I personally love those flavors.

One more possibility is the region may affect the food. If you are eating Thai food in Thailand, it's going to be different than, say, Thai food in Japan, or Thai food in the U.S. There is a tendency to cater to local tastes.

The only thing I don't like about Thai food (in Thailand) is the tendency to leave the bones (fish, chicken) and indigestible lemon grass in the soups. You have to be really careful when you eat...I don't care for that.

Of course, your experience is your experience. If you don't like it, you'll eat something else. As a famous Kentuckian wise man once said, "Whatever floats your boat..."

So you don't like Thai food. Presumably you do eat 'other ethnic foods' including other 'Asian' cultures ... but did you know that you may be 'rejecting' Thai food from 'one or two' items you don't like ... and there are several dishes that are just 'Asian' that you can get in a Thai restaurant ... I suggest you try their 'chicken wings' appetizer ... they are 'really good' and taste basically the same as American chicken wings ... and READ THE WHOLE MENU because there has to be a few other 'acceptable dishes' that you could order when everyone else wants Thai food, and you must either 'stay home' or eat Thai.

Ooooookay, you are swedish.
Yeah, nordics do have very different taste when it comes to cuisine.

You think Thai food "stinks" just like a lot of people think nordic food is tasteless....no garlic, no spices...

I am going to Thailand every year and i stay a month and i must say that their cuisine is one of the reasons.

I bet you 100 dollars that the Thai Street Food is better than the food you eat on a regular basis.

But then again, this is a matter of taste.

Enjoy your Smörgåstårta!

Sounds like not a racist character I am reading here but you need
to travel to find the whole truth about your dislikes about Thai cooking. I, very much, like you hating Thai cooking even when I was born in Malaysia, influenced by Thai, Indian, Chinese, Malay and Western cookings.

I hated pizza and Italian pastas here too when I came here 27 years ago. Then I discovered how good were they when I travelled to Paris and Italy. And I went to Thailand 3 months ago and discovered how good they can cook. Thai food is really good if you know how to train your f-g taste buds. ..a h

Why would you even think that ANYBODY cares what a waitperson in Indiana thinks about Thai food? Do you REALLY believe your opinion is worth anything compared with that of the entire population of Thailand, and the millions around the world that enjoy their cuisine?

Get a grip!

P.S. If you have trouble digesting cilantro and basil, you may have a serious gastro-intestinal problem. You should check with your doctor. Before it is too late!

maybe because you like bland tasteless food!

I myself LOVE Thai food- the REAL stuff you get in Bangkok is way better than the watered-down American versions we get here. The flavors explode in your mouth with each bite- it was a shock at first, but I've develped a taste for it. Real Thai food is GREAT!

It's more on the spicy side. Perhaps u don't have a thing for spicy food or u have yet to taste authentic Thai delicacies.

Because that's just your opinion. I adore Thai food, and I'm sure many others would agree.

Its all in the eye of the beholder.
Or in this case the mouth, etc.
