In you live in the US, go to a dollar store. Maybe they have lei's or decorations. My daughter did this a few years ago for 2 of her kids. She rented the pool at the park, they had lei's for everyone and fruity drinks. She had little umbrella's to put in the drinks and they bar-b-Qued hot dogs and teriyaki chicken, I think. I think she also had a big fruit salad in watermelon. There were balloons of course....There's so much you could do, or go to Party City to at least get ideas.

Ocean state job lots as a lot of party stuff and it's cheep! Wow for my 8th birhtdya I had an Hawaiian party too! ok Well mabey use real of fake coconut cups and fill them with punch for everyone. And make it real! Have them accutally try the coconut milk. It's what Hawaiian's used to drink! Get some cheep grass skirts and flowers for there hair and they can do the hula! Have them use hula hoops for practice. Hears some steps for the reall hula:
1. stand up and place one arm out to one side.
2. then take the other arm and bring it over on top of the other hand/arm. [so when you open it's like a crocodile mouth.]
3. then take the arm on top and slowly bring it up and make a curved shap as your doing it.
that's called the rain bow.
the basic thing everyone knows is the hands doing the wave motion.
that's called the ocean.
another one is
1. take one arm and bring it infront of you [hand reaching the other side of you] so it's up to your chest. the whole arm is.
2 take the arm where that other hand meets and but the elbow on the hand. And with the arm that has the elbow on the hand, shake it.
That's called the palmtree.
Hope those steps helped!
Take some contruction paper and cut out frames. have the girls decorate there own frames with Tropical and Hawaiian stickers.
Play pass the coconut:
each person sit's down making a circle and you pass the coconut around and one person [not looking] says stop and whoever has the coconut in hand it out.
get some cheep decoration fishing net and hang it up to mabey store the presents. Get some dark green cheep tissue paper and rip in thick strips and decorate around the house and out doors as sea weed. put little toy fish eveywere.
Hope I helped! :) And Happy Birthday! :)

I would suggest my favorite cake - Hawaiian Wedding Cake.
Bake your favorite yellow cake in an 18"x26" (or close to 18"x26") cake pan, it will take a little less time to bake since it will be thinner so keep an eye on it.
While it's baking, in a mixer make vanilla pudding per package directions (you want to make a 4 serving box and a 6 serving box together - I'm not sure of the ounces) when the pudding is done mix in two 8 oz packages of cream cheese. This works better if the cream cheese is soft and added to the mixer a little at a time.
When the cake has cooled put the pudding mixture on top. The next layer is two cans of WELL DRAINED crushed pineapple. Next layer is two containers of Cool Whip. To top it off use two cans of cherry pie filling.
I have made this cake many times and it is always a big hit.

You can purchase at almost any party craft store Hawaiian leis and grass skirts. The boys can wear hawaiian shirts and flip flops. You can by the record called the Hukelau get a limbo stick and the record so the kids can do the limbo. Serve a fruit salad in a watermelon boat and have hawaiian punch to drink. I just did this for my 5th grade class. The kids loved it, we all ahd a ball.

Party City ha all their Luau decorations on sale now. http://www.orientaltrading.com also has great luau decorations. When you get to the site, look for the children's party packs with the luau theme. You could serve what the Hawaiians call a Pukka Dog. It is a polish hot dog with pineapple salsa. That might be something they would be willing to try ( I doubt it though ). Serve them some fruit cocktail with a made up name. Make smoothies, again with tropical names and a silly straw and little umbrella in it. look at this site for a long list of award winning children's Lula Parties. The people who gave these parties tell you how they did them and everything else about them.

We through a hawaiin themed party once. We ordered most decorations and such from the following place: orientaltrading.com. It was the cheapest place I could find. It also is a great place for any party ideas as its not just hawaiin but prices are great. They also have party favors... and great place to order halloween candy for the trick or treaters. Only thing is you have to order ahead its not something you can go out and pick up last minute. In that case I recommend party city, their prices arent to bad. Good Luck!
