most chinese food that are in america has being americanized. place like chinatown , flushing etc. somewhat still have that chinese flavor. they have to americanize because chinese people have different taste than american. american is more toward sweet. to the chinese people eating americanized chinese food they all taste the same "sweet". but there are some pretty good chinese food in flushing or chinatown.

The Chinese food in America is sweetened for the American taste buds. It tastes completely different in China.

What we eat here is Americanized Chinese. Someone I know went to China for three weeks about four months ago. He said that what they feed tourists is different from what they feed each other. They walked down a street where the local eating places were and he said that the smell would make you sick. Chinese will eat about anything.

It's different in the US versus China... partly to attract the local customers, but also the restaurants use what's available locally which is sometimes different from what they have in China.

For example, meats taste differently due to freshness, type of feed, farm-raised versus free-range, type of cow, pig or fish... etc.

If the place you go to has a lot of Chinese customers ask to see the "Chinese menu" they will usually help you figure out what's on there and you will get to try some "homemade" Chinese food.

we rarely eat foo young in China . . . it's not that popular. It's just American-made Chinese food, not authentic, really . . .

There are now a lot of Asian sauces and spices that are imported so we are getting more and more of the Asian tastes.
Read the labels on the bottles to see where they come from or if they are made under licence in the US.
The foreign ones are more likely to be unaltered
