He is on dialysis 3 days a week, they are now going to proceed with 4 days a week. He has been struggling with shortness of breath and most recently been sweating and complaining of having a tingling sensation in his face when he gets breathless. Because he doesn't actually have chest pains with these symptoms the doctors are not looking at it as anything that could be serious. But we watch him everyday and think differently. We are just trying to understand the tingling in the face its a new symptom we have never seen before.

It sad to state that at times we doctors are helpless, and I appreciate your concern about your father's health. It is up to HIM now.
Anyway, he is a very high risk patient now (VSIL), so take care of him, as he did when you were a kid.
Sorry for the sentimental remarks, but you will have to face it, like I did in my mum's case, she went into cardiac arrest, after dialysis.( Crude fact of life ).Difficult to feel a dear one in pain.
I was helpless too.
May God be with your father and you.

I know I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like your father is probably drinking too much. When a dialysis patient drinks too much fluid, the lungs get fluid in them, which makes it difficult to breath. This can compound the heart problems he has, and results in not enough oxygen getting to his body's tissues. This is probably why he feels tingling in his face, because of a lack of oxygen.

Since your dad is going to dialyze 4 days a week, that makes me think your dad is probably a large man. I would recommend a physician approved exercise plan (even just walking). This will clear his arteries, which will improve the body's oxygenation, and will relieve some of the stress on the heart.

I also want to reiterate the importance of keeping his fluids down to keep his lungs clear and his heart from being overwhelmed with fluid. Also, watch that potassium and phosphorus! This will help your heart and arteries as well.
