I am slightly upset with the rude answrs here. I was genuinely wanting to find out info so that my vegetarian friend would have something to eat that would not be against her beliefs. I know that she eats eggs so that means potato salad is ok but come on, potato salad isn't a meal. I have heard of some vegetarians eating fish and poultry but I am not sure where my friend stands on this and I respect her so I don't wnat to do anything to disrespect her. It's that simple!

Several of you missed a teaching opportunity here. Instead of talking down to me, maybe you could have actually tried just plain talking.

think of it like this...
meat=flesh or products made from animals that have flesh.
fish is flesh.

Sorry, that really isn't much help.
If you know you are catering to vegetarians and are conscious about it, that is very nice of you to consider and go out of your way to respect someone elses beliefs. The world could use a little more of that.
If you are careful it wouldn't be hard to make something to cater to both. Try something like a pasta primavera, but be conscious of what you put in it. This is something that you can consider as a meal for either a meat eater or vegetarian because you can cook the chicken and place it in a seperate bowl for those who wish to have chicken pasta primavera. Just think of things like that and make it easier on yourself. There is no reason it has to be made more difficult. That is what turns alot of people off about having to cook for a vegetarian... it's extra. But with a little thinking and no more work... it doesn't have to be.
Good luck and bless you.

The defintion of a vegetarian is "a person who does not eat meat, fish, poultry nor slaughter by-products"

Its been that way in moderated dictionaries for 140 years.

All the curruptions and semi/demi this and that is just internet rubbish. There is also no such thing as a true/strict/technical ( etc ) vegetarian.

People are either vegetarian, or they are not.

If you are preparing veggie food for the first time, be-aware of the by-products in pocessed foods.

It was good of you to ask, your veggie friends will appreciate it.

Best of luck with it, can we all come ? ( I'll bring beer & wine )

A "true" veggie doesnt eat animals or fish - but many claim to still be vegetarian and eat fish. Which is pure hypocrisy.

Vegetarians do not eat the flesh of animals. Nor do they eat gelatin because it is made of the bones, skins, and hooves of animals.

Vegans avoid dairy and egg products in addtiion to the flesh of aniamls. You might want to call your vegetarian friend and ask him/her what would be a good dish to make.

Of course not. Vegetarians do not eat animal flesh. There is no such thing as a fish or poultry eating vegetarian. There is also no such thing as a pesce or pollo-vegetarian.

The basic rule is to avoid anything that has a face!

So no poultry, fish, beef, pork, lamb, rabbit, venison etc. etc. etc.

There are different types of vegetarians. Some go all out and don't eat any meat. Some eat chicken and fish but no red meat. I am one of the vegetarians that eat fish but nothing more than that.

Anything with eyes should not be eaten. Period. No flesh of any animal. Google some veg web sites -- they have great party recipes!

No they do not. It's about not killing animals and eating the dead flesh. So, nothing that once lived. Vegans won't even eat eggs or drink milk - nothing that came from animals.

a simple question for you. do you think fish and poultry are meat?
and let me answer that for you because apparently I don't think it's obvious to you that it came from animals. it's a no brainer that it is meat, sweetie.

vegetarians do not animals.
