No, but you won't need the gift of tongues outside of the church. The gift of tongues is the least of the spiritual gifts of the holy spirit. It is a supernatural utterance in languages not known to the speaker. these languages may be existant in the world or unknown in the sense that they are a means of communication inspired by the holy spirit. It is a power gift meant for edification of the church. 1 Cor 12: 8- 10.

You only get the gift of tongues if you have the spirit in you and if you are not living for God you no longer have the spirit but if you repent and have a relationship with God again and the spirit lives within you, you will have the gift again to speak in tongue.

Your "gifts" have nothing to do with your salvation. Did you see the thief on the cross babbling in tongues? No. He went to be with Christ in "paradise" as He promised.
Backsliding does not cause you to lose salvation or gifts. It only puts a wedge between you and God in regards to your fellowship with Him.
I would think you would be more worried about your relationship with God, disrupted by your backslide, then you would your "gifts", of which the Apostle Paul discounted as being the least important.

Not necessarily. There are lots of Christians who are not living according to God's will and they still have the gift, whereas there are some who for some reason don't speak in tongues any more

first of all, backsliding is for nations, not individuals. second of all, there is no such thing as the "gift of tongues" as tongues is understood today.
Tongues in the biblical sense is that of a known, earthly language which can be interpreted, thus Paul says there should be an interpreter.
it is not some gibberish garbage that is usually passed off as "speaking in tongues" in most churches today that practice this stupid thing, and that called "heavenly language".
so forget about them.

One train of thought is that "all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory". That as we continually and daily go against God's will, in spite of ourselves, and that God needs to continually forgive us, that we are both "saint and sinner" (simul justus et preccator). In other words, we are always backsliding and always looking for and needing God's forgiveness. Yet in spite of this, He continually gives us his gifts of the spirit.
As a side note: In Acts, when the apostles were given the gift of the spirit, it was that everyone was able to understand the language no matter their country of origin.

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. If we are crucified with Christ we are dead to the world. If you have backslidden it is time to repent again, turn your heart back toward Jesus and keep going. There is no person that has not had weak moments, thats why 1 John 1:9 was written If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I believe it's POSSIBLE to lose those gifts because the Scripture tells the backslider to "repent and do your 'firstworks' (follow the plan of salvation again) over." I would say you'd HAVE to lose them to get them back so, who knows?

you know that turning your back from God is not the right thing to do. apparantly when we let God go out of our lives, things change. we just don't want to think about it as it is but everything we have before will not be ours anymore. for in what cause do we still need them when we have been using them for GOD?
