What's the point of an ocean if you didn't have to cross a desert to get there?
It's a journey.

I'm not sure I understand. When you die you either go to spend eternity in Heaven (if you were a true believer) or in Hell (if you weren't). There will come a time at the end of Tribulation when God will reestablish His Kingdom on Earth and make a New Jerusalem and a new Earth in which to reign.
Revelation 3:12
Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.
Revelation 21:1
[ The New Jerusalem ] Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. [Note: "Sea" here could refer to death. Often in Scripture references to the sea are synonymous with death, and sometimes Hell)]
Revelation 21:2
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
Chapter 21 of Revelation also includes a description of the city, also the requirements of those who will live there. However, this place is not yet accessible. Heaven is where you go when you die, and religious (at least, Christians) continue to live on Earth until they die (and until we actually colonize other worlds, assuming that ever happens, or make colonies on space stations, moons, asteroids, etc.).

People ask such questions bcos with the advent of today's science and technology few tend to think we can have answer for all questions pertaining to our life on this earth. But the fact is that having Faith in "Unseen" things is itself a part of today's science. You can see my other answers to prove this. Till now we dont know exactly what is happening in death and after that. So we have to bring in Faith here. Otherwise we will have only theories and proposals. But certainly not a concrete answer. Today scientific findings tend towards Faith in God. The research work done on "What is Time" will enhance our knowledge about death and life after this world. First of all we cant define your "Perfect Land" bcos we dont have one here on this earth. The simple reason is, in this world we have everything measured with respect to time. Also we have good & bad, positive & negative in all things around us. We cant imagine a situation where we will have only positive things and no time limit is there. (ie) eternal. Also we cant control our death. If we look around us and everyday news we can easily conclude this. All the religions also say how to reach the perfect land. It is only through our actions in this world. Not simply by our death. The fact is man can control only his own actions perfectly. All other things cannot be controlled beyond a limit by us. By making our actions perfect, then when we die we will reach the perfect land. There is no short cut or we cant bribe anyone to reach this perfect land. Hope my attempt to answer your question is right.

Because not everyone after dieing go to the perfect place. If you were a good person you will go to the heaven while if you were a bad one you will go to the hell and because people do not know If they are good persons or not they are afraid from dieing.
I do not want to talk about a specific religion, but I think that most of people do bad things in their life and know that they are going to the hell, so they prefer to make their heaven in this life before dieing.
with all respect for all religions.

God is the Master of Life and Death.
When God created Adam (The First human) and then Eve from his body, they were in paradise and not sent to earth unless they disobeyed God. Of course, heaven is a place much, much better than earth. But it is God who decides that when are we going to die... if you are talking about suicide, it is a sin. Suicide is ungratefullness, because God has granted this life to us. Man has come to this world for a purpose,... this is what we religious people believe. In my religion, the purpose is to recognize God and get His closeness. The worldly life is like a test, and in the other world we'll see the result of what we've done. If we live on this earth in a good manner, we worship God, serve his creations, and try to find out the hidden realities/facts in the universe for a good purpose, our reward will be the love of God and a high place in heaven...
No one can get heaven for no reason... you have to struggle for it, by doing good deeds. Not all the people who die will go to the paradise, sinners are to be sent to the hell unless God forgives them.

who said it was a perfect land. It is to be free of your body and it constraints, to be in the spirit. Earth is not hell don't fool your self, it might seem like it to you, but with a relationship with God we have the both of best worlds. If you don't believe that you have a spirit and there is more than this, than you can not understand the thing of the Spirit. We live a Supernatural live striving for a union with God. To you foolishness for sure to me life and peace. Thank God for Jesus

When you die, you will be burried and your body flesh will be eaten by the worms, then your body flesh will vanish and you be return to dust but your spirit will be under the care of God until judgement comes. If at the judgement it was found out that you have sins while living on earth and the same were not forgiven by God because you did not repent for the said sins, yet you do not believe and have no faith in God, you will be sent to hell where your spirit will suffer to the lake of fire and burn. You will not hve eternal life. But at the judgement when if was found out that you have confessed your sins to God which were forgiven by him because you have faith in him, you will be brought with him to heaven to live happily and eternally.
Upon your death you will lost everything which you will leave on earth.

Good Question.
Well most religions just paint a beautiful picture of where one might go after death, as life after death and where we go has been a constant topic of debate, speculation, and theory. No one has actually gone and came back to report.
To me, a religious person is one who by following his religion makes the world itself a place as beautiful as they describe heaven. Wouldn't that be great.
Taking ones own life in order to be in a place that no one has ever seen or been or proved existed would be sheer stupidity.
I prefer to burn in my own hell than live in someone else's Heaven.

Suicide focuses on this reward of heaven which is not the goal. The point of Christianity is not to get to heaven. That is not the reward. The reward for seeking God is to find God and be united with Him in a supernatural relationship of love.
This process of uniting us with God is God's plan and we're either going to follow Him or reject Him. Leaving the earth through suicide is not part of His plan.

In my religion, killing yourself to get to that perfect place is a sin. Just as killing another person. It, in short, would land you in a tempory state of being known as Purgatory.. It sucks just as bad as Hell, but at least one wouldn't actually be there for eterrnity. So we stay here and try to be good so we don't have to hang around in Purgatory for very long. Less sin = less time in Purgatory which is meant to purge one of all their sins.
