I have a 5 year old cat who is litter-trained and 'till recently hasn't caused me any problems with it. First, he started peeing on dirty clothes that were laying around. So, taking some of you all's good advice I became a better housekeeper. However, I just went in the bathroom and saw where he peed right in front of a fresh litter box. I caught him peeing on a pile of laundry earlier as well.

It is true that cats do not like change, so if something new has come about he may just be letting you know he does not appriciate it. However, a trip to the vet may be in order. My cat started doing that, and at first I was so mad at her. But then someone told me she might have a urinary tract infection. Sure enough, I took her to the vet and that is what it was. The vet said that when a cat has a uti that they just know it hurts when they pee right there. So in the cats mind they are thinking, "Hmmm it hurts when I pee right there, so next time I'll try and pee over there." They don't know why it hurts. The vet will give you meds if that is what it is, and they feel better almost immediately. You feel better too, because you don't have to clean up cat pee all over the place;-)

Have a urine analysis done. This is very commonly a sign of urine crystals or a urinary tract infection. He associates the discomfort he has when he pees with the litterbox, so he starts to avoid it. For males this situation is very dangerous, as they can block and not be able to pee. I advise: 1. take a sterile cup and put it under his tail as he pees, and take it for analysis and bacterial culture.
2. Feed him Hill's c/d or Eucanuba Urinary formula or the like.
3. Give him canned food, preferably with added water in it. The more dilute the urine, the less possibility it has to block.
4. All the above are emasures to help, but they don't substitute the need to have a urine analysis and a treatment by a vet. He may need antibiotics.
5. You can also buy urine reagent strips and check his PH. It should be between 5 and 7. Preferably around 6. If it is close to 7 or more, this is an indication that I am right. The strips also usually indicate the presence of visually undetected blood in the urine. If that is also positive, there is an infection.

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. My first reaction, since you indicate he just started this, is he make have an infection, bladder, kidneys etc. Have him checked by your vet. If he is ok there, have you changed the cat litter? Have you introduced a new pet ? Could he be stressed for any reason?

Hi, don't worry i think all owners go through something like this from time to time. As for the cause well there are many possible causes from urinery infection to behavioural issues. Has he had a change in diet? A new pet added to the home? My cat did the same thing after we got a new kitten. It was stress and believe it or not just acting out.Sometimes if the box is full, he will go in the bathtub, which is not too often as the box stays pretty tidy

Did you move the box recently? Cats learn to use the space the litter box is in, not the litter box itself so much.

There is something bothering him. Take him to the vet to rule out anything medical (urinary infection or worse) then spend more time with him so he doesn't feel alone.

Maybe he is sick. Take him to the vet if he keeps doing it. He might have a bladder infection.
