fishing safer for the fish? I have a couple of ideas about how this could be done.

Yes indeed that would make catch and release easier. If you do go with a barb-less hook, you will lose alot more fish. The point of the barb is to prevent the hook from coming out of the mouth. This could be revolutionary and you could be put in the IGFA Hall of Fame for making catch and release easier if your product can hold onto the fish.

Using a barb less hook now, you don't have to touch the fish, just give the hook a slight twist and the fish is off.
