its not all due to global warming! sea level change can be eustatic or isostatic. this means that it can be the sea rising relative to land level (eustatic) due to more water from melting ice caps or other sources or it can be land level change relative to sea level (isostatic) due to land sinking or rising. for example south england is sinking and scotland is rising due to the effects of the ice age thousands of years ago. as a result sea level is not rising constantly accross the UK. hope this helps with your question!

Actually there's little real difference. But if you're on a small island that is jsut barely above sea level in the first place, the rise in sea level is a lot more obvious.

The island is sinking, so it seems like a greater rise in sea level. Many islands sink a little each year.
