I need help!
1. CPU was restarting by itself (even if it was just sitting and on but not being used).
2. I re-loaded my "windows xp-pro"
3. It said windows could not load the Installer for WPD (what is wpd).
4. I was trying to type question to you (what is wpd?) but CPU went to blue screen and said
"Shut down to prevent damage to computer"
"Beginning dump of physical memory" (what does that mean?)at which time I could not get out of the blue screen and it had a count (up) to almost 90 and then CPU shut down.

I had to restart and am now typing this question.

I know nothing about computers so PLEASE be basic.

THANK YOU SO MUCH...

1. Either virus or processor is overheat.
3. WPD = WordPerfect
4. Beginning dump of physical memory = Its protection so that you don't lose data it dumps the files in RAM to the hard disk so that it can recover it on next boot.

It sounds like you overloaded your processor(represented by the CPU), so it had to restart. It is the CPU that is important in this instance. CPU stands for Cenral Processing Unit and is represented by your processor speed. You probably have an older processor and too many running applications that overwhelmed it. Hitting control/alt/delete will show you what processes are running, how much memory is used, and how much it is taxing your processor. You can select processes to shut off, thus saving memory and processor speed for essential functions. You may also want to run an antivirus scan and antispyware scan to make sure there is nothing on there unduly taxing your system. I doubt there was any damage to your system, but if it continues, you may want to dump unnecessary programs that may be taking up memory. Also, emptying your startup folder is a good way to stop programs from starting immediately with windows.

In addition to what Jack said you might want to clean out your temparary internet files..

To do this click start>>> control panel>>> internet options>>>general tab>>> then delete the files with delete options...

Also defraging your comp hard drive won't hurt... Defraging means letting your system check itself putting parts of programs all together instead of spread out on your hard drive.. (A visual of this is instead of having keys spread around your house you have a key rack to keep them together and easy to find) the same concept applies to the computer instead of using extra memory and cpu power searching the whole hard drive for parts of files they are all together easier to find..

To defrag click Start>>> control panel>>> Administrative tools>>> Computer Management>>> Then on a little list to the side it will say Disk Defragmentation>>> then follow instructions on page... Defrag usually takes 15-30 minutes depending on how full your hard drive is ...

Good Luck...
