Because sometimes they are not just asking for answers (or the facts alone) but opinions, or other people's personal experiences. And sometimes if your request/query is very specific, it can be hard to find exactly what your looking for on the Net.

That is a good question for yahoo answers as, even though it is simple question, you won't find the answer by doing a search.

Some questions are really easy to answer by doing a search, it seems really pointless to ask questions like that given that the best answers tend to be cut & pasted from a search and it takes much longer to get the answer.

I guess people who ask this type of question really aren't interested in finding the answer and probably won't read the replies anyway.

Sometimes if you search 'Yahoo' or 'Google' you can get lucky, but there are a few 'tricks' and methods you can use to search and find better answers.

For example, many people do not know you can use quotation marks around a phrase to search for that exact phrase and they do not know that you can use a '+' sign to add extra search specifics.

I also believe that there are people out there who still have never heard of Wikipedia. It is a convenient source, but Answers.com often directly copies Wiki articles (and probably vice versa)

There is also the possibility that some people are also too lazy to search themselves :-)
