You have five options. Weigh the consequences wisely:

1. Relinquish all contact with her (don't respond etc.)

2. Apologetically tell her that you are already taken

3. Try to make HER not want to date you by focusing on telling her mostly your negative characteristics

4. Same as three, but lie or stretch the truth

5. Like most have said, be honest. But do it apologetically and emphasize how much it hurts you to tell her this.

just be honest ask if and how she can possibly have that kind of feelings over the net and are they real. be kind and honest and tell her whats up be like look we don't really know each other that well and i don't look at you that way. and your probably gonna piss her off no matter what you say. just try to be as kind as possible thats all. and thats about the best you can do and just hope for it to turn out. if she is really your friend and she really does like you then she should understand i think and i would point that out in what you tell her but you might want to do something like that privately and not for everyone in the world to see. also you could always leave it open for possibilities you never know you might change your mind a bit and whats the point in burning bridges and if you leave it open a bit it might make her feel better bout herself as well. good luck

Well, I wouldn't jump to conclusions before she even asks you out. People flirt online. It doesn't mean they want to bring it into real life. If she asks you, just say no thank you or I'm not interested. It's simple as that. If she gets pissed off, too bad. People face rejection every day. You don't need to make up an excuse. If she harasses you then block her.

Just tell her straight out that you'd like to be friends with her, nothing more. People never take rejection easily, but you really have no other choice.

If you want, try having a conversation with one of her friends, and let it slip that you like her, but not quite as much as she does you. The way girls are, she'll know in a matter of hours, and you won't even have to put yourself in the line of fire.

Maybe you could casually let her know that you are interested in somebody else, maybe even somebody you really are interested in.
You could try and find somebody who was interested in her and hook them up.
You could just avoid her for a week or two, stay out of myspace and stuff, and see if she loses interest or moves on to someone else.

Well obviously you care somewhat about her or you would just blow her off completely. I would just tell that you really care about her but dont want to lead her on, and that right now it seems like being friends with her is the best thing. She should respect your decision if she cares for you.

I had the same problem and I asked my brother for advice, and he told me that the best policy is telling the truth.
I know it might be hard at first but its better than lying because then it might come back and bite you in the rear

Be honest, it might hurt her feelings, but then you don't have to be on edge because you're afraid how she'll react. If she flips, she isn't even worth having as a friend.
