That is perfectly normal for a 4 month old. Most dogs don't lift their leg until much older, nearing maturity.
My own breed doesn't do it until at least a year.
Some dogs never do, if they don't see others doing it.

Absolutely nothing! Some male puppies don't start lifting their legs until they're a year or more. My adult males, if they really have to pee, don't even lift their legs! Leg-lifting is a social marking behavior, and has nothing to do with the medical/health aspect of urination. Even female dogs sometimes lift their legs to pee when marking.

Some dogs take a little longer to learn the peeing ettiquite. My dog is a pit bull mix and he didn't start lifting his leg to pee until about the age of 11 months. I contributed it to his being lazy, lol. But sometimes he will lift his leg and other times he just stands there and pees. It's normal, your dog will grow out of it and start peeing like a normal male. He just hasn't learned to balance himself yet or the importance of lifting his leg to spread his scent. He will.
On the other hand, my mom had a tea cup poodle, female, that lifted her leg and squatted to pee. Go figure.

Dogs are like people and they are all different. My beagle who is 1.5yrs old pees with his leg up. The Springer Spaniel is 5yrs old and has never lifted his leg but squats. Too us who cares the dogs are peeing. If it bothers you so much then get over it. Point blank your dog is the one who will decide in the end how it wants to pee.!

Thats perfectly normal. All puppies pee that way till they get a little older. At 4 months, he is still tiny. As he gets older he will start peeing like a male, lol I have a female puppy that likes to hump, I haven't figured that one out either but as my older ones did, they will grow out of it when they are old enough, lol.

They don't begin lifting their legs until they mature a little more, usually around six months or so. Almost all puppies squat, like the female adults. If he is not neutered he will become a pro leg lifter, marking everything that will hold still, including shoes, legs, and furniture. Having him neutered before this starts will help prevent future damages, as well as add to his health benefits, eliminating his chances of testicular cancer, and significantly decreasing his chances of prostate problems, and rectal tumors, all common problems in older unaltered males. All cause great discomfort and make BM's very difficult. If he is neutered, he will probably still lift the leg to urinate, just won't be driven to mark everything in sight. Best of luck, remember regular vet visits, vaccinate, heartworm prevention, parasite control, and spay and neuter all cats and dogs!!

I have a male pug who "squatted" like a female up until he was about a year old. My vet told me that some males never lift their leg and some do. Trust me, you're better off if he remains a squatter. once he learns how to lift, if he does, he'll be peeing on everything...

Male puppies usually pee like a female until they are a few months old. Usually round 6-9 months they start lifting their leg when they go into "puberty".
