Last night all of a sudden my throat became very swollen and I was really struggling to breathe. I then became very dizzy and passed out, luckily my friend was there and somehow she managed to wake me up. She put ice on my neck and eventually the swelling went down enough for me to breathe. What could this have been? I don't have any allergies and I didn't eat anythng out of the ordinary.. and I don't have anaphalyxis!?!

Sounds very much like an anaphylactic reaction to me.
How do you know you don't have anaphylacxis? The only way to determine if this was a anaphylactic reaction is by blood tests taken within so many hours of the reaction itself - this actually tests for a type of antibody.

It sounds incredibly dangerous. Struggling to breathe, losing consciousness are DANGEROUS LIFE THREATENING signs - why on earth didnt your friend call the paramedics.

Throat swelling, struggliung to breathe, dizziness, loss of consciousness all describe the classic symptoms of anaphylaxis.

Yoy many not have been able to identify the allergen to this reaction but it does not mean there wasnt one.

I would go see your doctor ASAP - have a test for anaphylactic reaction - and at least have some allergy testing to see what you need to avoid in the future.

An anphylactic reaction is one that can occur without any previous warning that you are allergic to something. Eg. you may have been able to eat nuts all your life but one day you are life threateningly allergic. Anaphylaxis is not something you can say you don't have...it is always possible to develop it in the future.

If you are not concnered for yourself at least consider your poor friend who must have been terrified of what was happening.

If that EVER happens again.
That's a 911 call and a trip to the ER.
You likely passed-out due to the swelling in your throat cutting off your airway. It was very fortunate for you that you did awaken.

Something attacked your body, whether a spider bite, or some allergic reaction (yes they can come on like that the FIRST time, and it's not limited to foods), or maybe flowers you smelled. Don't be worried about what the name is for the illness - it was almost certain some type of reaction.

Untreated for such symptoms is how people die, yes, that fast.

You would be wise to report this to your Dr., even though you're feeling better. Glad you're still with us tonight.
