One of my professor, who teachers Church History and American Religious Tradition, jokingly said that EVANGELICALISM is a code word for WHITE, MIDDLE/UPPER CLASS & CONSERVATIVE. (Of course he was speaking in normative terms, this does not categorize every single person)

How would you as an evangelical respond to this?

Well as an atheist (you should not be exclusive in an open forum) I associate evangelicalism with pretty much the opposite characteristics that were used by your professor. He seems to be describing Anglicans or Episcopalians, I think he is just wrong.

i would say that he obviously has not been to Sudan where evangelicals are dying because of their faith and many of them are not white. your professor is a racist, who does not see pass skin color. he is not alone many people have this problem. The fact of the matter is how often has he been outside of his comfort zone. he does not hang out with poor and uneducated people very often. he stays in his comfort zone. This statement is a huge generalization. but he would never know the truth until he gets a wider polling.

Your professor does his station a disservice. I will withhold the racist charge.

Drive through Crenshaw boulevard in Los Angeles, just north of the LA Airport sometime. Your 'professor' might learn something.

for the most part no. I think he still must have been mad about the "evangelicals pushing the vote for Bush to be in the white house".
