Why do architects design buildings to have maximum exposure to light from the north side ? Is this region spec

North light is an uniform desireable light, especially good for art work, design, etc. It lacks the sun, which is hot and yellow and damages fabrics and other materials that it shines on besides producing glare.
In the south temperate zone, you would design for south light and near the equator, you would work to provide as much shade as possible with the sun nearly over head.
