Petting a cat has been proven to lower the blood pressure (a good thing), and being a pet owner helps people live longer lives (several studies showed this).

EVERYTHING has germs. Cats at least clean their fur pretty good, you'd get less germs off a cat than you would a dog, and both of those are a lot cleaner than most pet birds (sorry bird owners!).

It's still up to her to decide if you'll get a pet, though. Sorry. But she shouldn't scare you with the 'germ' thing. You can get germs from touching the side of your car or your outdoor door handle just coming into the house.

Cats need veterinary care just like you need to see a doctor or dentist, so they'll need to be budgeted into the household income. They need food, and litter, a litter box, and a carrier. That costs money too.

Maybe she's wanting to wait a few years before getting a pet for the home?

Cats can be good for you and cats can be bad for you. For now you must listen to your mom. However, if you really want a cat, read all you can about them -- how to take care of them and how they act. Then you can ask on your birthday. Be sure to say you're going to do all the cleaning and feeding. When I was little my mom wouldn't let me have a cat in the house. We lived on a farm and had outside pets but none inside. Now that I'm grown up I can have as many inside cats as I want to. I have 5 cats and they are a lot of work, but they're happy and they make me happy.

I don't see how cats are bad for you at all. If anything they make your life more exciting and interesting. I truly believe no harm will come to you if you get a cat especially since cats CAN'T pass any diseases/sicknesses onto you.

Cats clean themselves, but if ur mom is afraid of germs still, she can always wash her hands after touching the cat. =D

Cats are deff NOT bad for you. They're really fun to have around! We have 13 of them actually. Nothing's wrong with any of them, and nothing's wrong with us because of them. As long as you take care of it, everything is fine!

Cats are cleaner than dogs. Cats bath daily to clean their fur. Dogs always smell, they can't bathe like cats do.
