I work at a part time electronic retail store and I am at a point where I'm really piss at stupid customers not knowing what they want and destroying properties of the store and even then still would not buy it. Let me explain: I've seen so many customers open brand new packages (lets use a psp game box, or anything that is packaged to illustrate my point) and totally f*cked it up so that the next person that see it would not want to buy it because it's so f*cked up. I wanted to know why they do this so I asked them and this is what they have to say; "I wanted to make sure that everything is in there" or "I just want to make sure it's brand new". I mean come on, are they that stupid. It really pisses me off to the point when I just want to punch them in the mouth for saying such retarded and idiotic remarks. I tell them if it's a brand new item in mint condition, then everything should be in there and there is a description of what is included printed right on the package.

So now there are so many open box psp consoles and no one wants to buy it because of stupid customers that open them and ruined it for the honest customers. The thing is I'm not around the whole time to catch them opening packages. They always seems to do it when I'm not around for some odd reason. The other thing that got me so mad is I would say that 99.99% of the time after they have open it and inspected it and found out that everything is in there as expected because it's a brand new item, they would put it back on the shelf as though nothing had happened and not buy it. So why open a brand new item and ruined it for other people and not even buy the damn thing? Keep in mind that it is not only the psp system but virtually anything that is packaged from the large item to the small item. Now there are so many open boxes and no one wants to buy it because of people like them. So my question to you if you happen to be that person is, why do you open it if you don't want to buy it?

Keep in mind that everything is inspected by the staffs if it happens to be a returned item and we would mark it with an orange sticker with a reduced price on it. That's how you can tell if it is open and returned from the brand new items. But still people are too stupid to see that. They still open up brand new items and because of that, we now have to put an orange sticker on it with a reduced price on it. I just hate it when that happened.

I have only opened items in discount/junk stores before buying them. I do this when the seal has obviously been previously broken, so as to insure all of the parts are there. If everything is there, I do go on to buy the item, however.
I agree with Pacifica in that many times, I've been burned in the past by bringing something home that had been opened, or returned by someone else.
It sounds like your store does openly sell returned and reconditioned items (marked with orange stickers), though. Although those items are clearly marked, I'm assuming that your customers are afraid of ending up with a product that hasn't been properly marked and discounted. I think that's an unfortunate reality of working in a store that sells both new and "reconditioned" items. I understand your frustration, but would assume that the customers have probably had past negative experiences with resold electronics.

I know how you feel. I work at a shoe store and they do the same thing, well sort of. But they dont put them back the right way and yet they B!TC# that they're not white enough, they are dirty, they look used, etc when we dont touch them ourselves except for the boxes when we have to move them. They complain over the stupidest things even thought he prices are very low. My recommendation is to suggest putting a sign saying that if they are gonna open it, that they should buy it.

Because often the thing has been previously opened, or returned by someone else and F ed with that's why.

I was about to buy a bird cage set. Thought hey, better check it out, lovely little mouse turds in the thing - very nice. Why? Someone returned it, staff didn't check it. Would have been a nightmare to return this and convince them I didn't do it.

I can understand your annoyance if someone is opening a SEALED product.

That is really frustrating!

Maybe you can get your general manager to put up signs that say "Do Not Open Any Packages Or Else You're Buying It!"

At Sam's Club, I know they put all stuff like that in a cage type thing. Maybe you could suggest that too?

Make sure there is one of the items for inspection. Tape shut the new items with clear tape to deter them from opening them.

Put a big sign that reads "don't open any packages until you buy the item"

Go ahead and punch them in the face; they deserve it. I would never think of opening a new package in the store.
