As far as I'm concerned war is a no win situation.
.
Sure we could kill, kill, and be killed, killed, killed. That's what's happening right now. If we should pull out tomorrow that doesn't mean we loose. But that doesn't mean "they" win either.
I think the guy's back in Nazi Germany. What is he thinking? Another Holocaust? Everyone wants the power. If we are so feared by other country's then there wouldn't have been a 911 and the Twin Towers would still be there.
The whole thing is like a "cat and mouse" game as far as I'm concerned. Who's going to get who first. Well guess who got it first. We all want the war to be over. There have been too many American service men and women killed already fighting for our country.
What I see is America has become too complacent. What we found out is that everyone doesn't love Americana's for what every crazy reason that may be. What! are we the perfect Country in other peoples eyes. Apparently not.
How do you end a war when these country's have been fighting each other for hundred's of years. It seems to be a way of life for them. Yet they say we want you out so we can establish our own Government. How that's going to happen, I don't have the slightest idea. As American's we are supposed to be their teacher's on how to run their country.
This whole war thing is beginning to become too political. And that's because of the elections. What! another Vietnam?
How political can you get.
NO! You can't just shoot every one in sight. Then you're back to Nazi Germany and Hitler. They just hung another Hitler.
Everyone wants the power, the control. Personally, I've had enough and I want our Troops home.
STOP THE KILLING ... MAY BE THE WAR WILL COME TO AN END ON THIS SIDE ANYWAY.

No, kill 'em all and let god sort them out, this is truly not the American way.
What we have needed since the begining and still do need is the support of the American people. From the begining there were actors in the public eye saying things like "I'm not the President, but I play one on T.V., and I don't think we should be at war.
This war in a way has been a repeat of Vietnam. There we won the battles but due to politicians and hipies that are politicians now we pulled out and lost.

I agree with being a superpower and I know that involves war but Bush has made the US less feared than before. Thus AQ keeps growing and more threats of terrorism at home. Iran is growing more powerful along with China and N. Korea. The way it's going something will have to give and the sad truth is we don't have the troops to wage a war of the size it needs to be without a draft.

I dunno...The Soviet Union was totally ruthless in Afghanistan and their efforts went nowhere. I'm sure people 'feared' the russians, but that didn't stop a lot of people from fighting them anyway. The concept of military defeat of an enemy applies only to conventional warfare anyway. We walked over the Iraqi military with few problems, but since the formation of the dozens of resistance groups there the algebra of the situation has changed....the real world is far different from what ever book the man on the train must have read.

In our current war if we are to win and get out as soon as possible then we must use whatever means necessary to win. If you notice in the history of the Soviet Union from 1945 until there demise no one really tested them because everyone feared them.

Well in a way I agree with him. We do need to be more feared and less "nice guys" However this does not mean killing innocents. What we really need to do is stop letting the insurgents go! When we catch them we kill them and that's it. They make videos of our people bound and helpless being beheaded. I say we one up that. We make a video of a hand to hand fight to the death between a us soldier and a captured insurgent. Then we tell them "see, at least we give you cowards a fighting chance!" Which is much more than they give us. Cowards is what they are! Masked men brandishing AK 47s that they aren't even proficient in using cutting the head off a tied up civilian! Cowardice! They should fear us! They send poor people to do their dirty work making them think their family will be taken care of afterward. So stop giving them 3 hots a day and a nice bed to sleep in. Stop spending money on them that can be spent on our soldiers. JUST KILL THEM!

Well I did four years in the Navy. I disagree with the man you met. The Soviet Union hasn't fared too well, has it?
We have the most powerful military in the world. We need to be respected, not feared. I know guys still in the service, all over the world, they are some of the finest men I have ever known.

I agree with him to an extant. The last time this nation had a ROE that allowed for victory was in Desert Storm. In most of our conflicts since Vietnam our politicians have called the shots. As a result they have come up with pure BS for rules of engagement. I will not say the US needs to booby trap toys to kill kids like the Russians did in Afghanistan, but the American people need to realize that in war bad things happen. It is not worth coming up with an ROE that does not allow for victory just to make sure that some civilians caught in the crossfire live. I could tell you some of the stories from my two deployments to OIF and OEF and it would be funny if not true. So in closing we do not need to commit genocide, I will get out if that happens but we need to quit fighting our wars with a PC mindset. When I went through OSUT infantry training at Benning I was taught close with and kill the enemy, our politicians believe we should close with and care about the enemy's feelings and give them presents.

People, the problem we have in the Middle East is this: we (American Military) are not allowed to fight the war, like a war has to be fought (all's fair in love and war). We need to stop catering to the Iraqi's and kill Iraqis who try to kill our men and women. We pander to them. That's it in a nutshell. If it keeps up, we may have to take all of our men and women out of the middle east and drop one nuclear bomb on them!

Basically, yes! We've lost what it means to be a warrior, fearless! We now let the politicians tell the military what to do, (are you kidding me?!?!?!). Politicians????
We need to let the military lead the military... before it's too late!
We cry when we get a cut! Look at the warriors back in Biblical times and how they defeated their enemies - WOW! They went in and cleaned house, literally; every man woman and child - wiped out... slaughtered! And there was no question as to who won!
