My mom says if your really a christain you will desire to read your bible and go to church. I dont though and I feel maybe im just in it because I want to go to heaven and im not really giving myself to god. I pray to him for everything, I trust him...ganit my actions dont seem to follow that. I have a strong connection with him...but am I just fooling myself?

I know we dont have to be perfect go go t heaven but my mom says 'again" that we will have a desire to change from our sins (i,e, stealing) and I dont really have a desire to change...I know what I am doing is wrong and im scared to death of getting caught but I really dont wanna give it up.

Seriouse anwers only please...I dont wanna hear you athiests (sp?) telling me it doesnt matter cause he isnt real....I KNOW HE'S REAL, Iv seen angels when I was younger so please dont share your sarcastic & pointless opinions.

.We have to make time for God in our lives...but if you don't feel a desire to read the Bible or Pray, then you might want to re-examine your salvation...I don't see any conviciton here. Go talk to God and tell him your problems..he has heard them before...Ask him to give you a desire to read his word...and Dear Heart,,,,you are going to have to stop sinning...it is part of the repentance...to turn form even thoughts of sin....are you baptised....if not, you need to get baptised..

Type in "read Bible in a Year" in google and have verses sent to your email each day. You don't have to read the Bible in book form....you can read it online....once you start to read through it,,,you will get more excited about reading it. And don't foreget to Pray everyday...pray for your family and freinds and don't forget to thank him for the good things he puts in your life....Praise him ever time something makes you happy...I love Sunshine, so I Praise him for the Sunshine..you get the point....You can do this and you will start to feel more involved with your Church if you make an effort.. You can be a Christian, without going to Chruch but you need the fellowship of other Christians to keep you built up in your faith.

I love Church but since I got sick, I can no longer go. I miss it very much...... but I don't read my Bible as much as I should...I did, when I first got saved, but after all these years, I have slacked off. I know I need to do it more than I do.
Now go out and claim your salvation. Don't make me come over there....LOL

As a young person I went to church to sing praises. Singing also helped me breathe better since I have always been asthmatic. I did this for forty years but stopped a few years ago because my choir mates said I smelled funny. Obviously the brotheran have to smell of roses or something. Perhaps if I had read the Bible all the way thru I would smell like them but I know what the Bible is about. I know what a lot of things are about and I didn't learn those things by rote like your average Bible beater insists is proper. The same Bb who has deemed the proper scent maybe? I do know that when I don't know something and I ask God, the answers I get work to disolve my ignorance.

As for stealing, your a thrill junkie but that thrill leads to places where there are no thrills. Jail. Try gymnastics for good thrills or skateboarding, the thrill is much more tangiable and can lead to wealth given to you, not stolen.

It is important we all have something to believe in no mater what or who it is but not believing is not a sin either. In the end we are all together as we are here. There are points in our lives that we question the faith we were raised in a lot of times it is around adolescence and young adulthood and others it is when things may not be going right for us and that is OK and it is OK to change as we mature too. We have to find peace within.

As for changing immoral behaviors....Whether we are Christians or not the social norm is not to steal(if this is your vice) therefore the majority feel guilt when they do steal. If this is something you want to change it is something you can change! But really want it and don't be afraid to ask for help, this can be an addiction. When you said you don't have a desire...that makes me think there may be a little bit of a problem that may need professional help. This is a decision only you can make. You will be in my thoughts...

If I ask you how you know if you're a Christian and your answers are something like:
- I'm a good person
- my parents are Christians
- I don't do drugs
- I'm a member of bla-de-bla church
etc... then you most likely aren't a Christian because those answers are all human-based. If this was all it took to be a Christian, then we wouldn't have needed a savior.

If your answer is something like:
- Christ died for me
- I am a sinner but I've asked God to forgive me
etc. then you most likely are a Christian.

Let's face it - church can be really boring, but there's nothing about Christ that's boring. I've had times in my life where all I wanted to do was read my Bible then other times when I could go for weeks and not even think about it. We all have peaks and valleys in our walk with Christ.

And Christians have habitual sins that they just don't want to quit. That's just part of our nature. They don't change overnight, but God will continue to deal with you and change your heart and convict you of the things that you are doing that are not in his will for your life.

If you are really confused about whether or not you are a Christian, then read the book of Romans. It is the best book of the Bible for explaining the plan of salvation.

I hope this helps. You're welcome to email me if you have other questions on how to be sure of your salvation.

There is an interesting balance in Christianity between a community life and a private one. There are certain times a group will be able to help you grow stronger in your faith and there are certain times you will want to be away from the group because it's not helping you grow. What you should really seek is finding where the balance is for you. And it sounds like that's what you're doing.

In my experience, take time away from church if you feel you need to. You will know when God is calling you back.

As far as your sins, I don't know what they are. But be sure to consider how they help or harm other people. You mentioned stealing as an example of sin. I'm sure you can reflect on what it feels like to have lost something. Imagine what it feels like to know a person stole it from you...probably 10 times worse.

I pray you find balance between the community life and the individual worship. Once you do, I'm sure you will feel a lot stronger in your faith.

You're in my prayers and happy hunting!
Matt

Megan:

Rest assured, if what you've stated in your question is true, you ARE a christian. You may not read your bible as often as people think you should, or may not go to church, but that doesn't change what you feel about the divine. You sin, and though that may not be pleasing to the god of your understanding, you can be forgiven by asking (at least to best of my knowledge, Non-christian that I am).

What you believe is REAL, if to no one else but you. No one can tell you you're not a "real" christian just because you walk your path your way. If god is all that you believe him to be, then he knows your heart, and is infinitely understanding. When you are ready to do things like read the bible and find a good church (which may happen as you mature), god will still be there to help you on that path as well.

Best of luck on your path,
Be well in all things,
Rave

No offense, but it would seem to me that your disinterest in religious/philosophical thought is responsible for you being a christian in the first place. How many other religions or ideologies have even been presented to you, and how many of them have you given a legitimate thought to?

I'm not saying you need to abandon christianity, but I am suggesting that perhaps you've only ever considered christianity as the base of your faith simply because it's the only thing that's ever been offered to you.

I find it further interesting that you say you've experienced angles and "know" there's a god. Well how do you "know" he's real? If you've experienced god in life, did he say anything about christianity? Did he mention Jesus? I just don't understand how someone justifies believing in god, and then jumps to the conclusion that this is the god christians speak of. Here's a wild wacky idea, could our reality entail a god and simultaneously reject christianity?

Think about that one.

Well, the fact that you feel convicted is a very good thing.

Start slowly, and take some Bible time. Even just a chapter a day. That's what I do.

And church isn't always fun, but go for the sake of learning more.

Just keep pushing in. Soon God will reveal himself to you and you'll start to get more on fire for him. It just takes some faith and time.

No..... As you said in your post, "I KNOW HE'S REAL. and thats all you have to believe in order for you to have salvation.
Just because you dont read the bible or dont go to church doesnt mean you cant believe that jesus died for your sins. I've often found a lack of desire like yourself and God understands this. First of all Satan has no power at all. God has allowed Satan to influence and bring disease, and sin into our world so that those who believe in God will turn from sin and God's glory will be shown.

if you believe in the christian god and that jesus was a savior you're christian regardless. if oyu don't read a bible or follow the churche's word EXACTLY and do EXACTLY what they say then your not a *catholic* there's a big difference. and i'm not exagerateing... according ot the catholic church if you do not follow them WORD FOR WORD on EVERYTHING you're not a catholic and you're going to hell.

personally i'm pagan, no offense, to each his own i just believe in things differently. just tellin ya some specifics.

in my belief everyone should believe in what *they* think is right. you don't need a church or pope or dusty old book to tell you how to live, be a good person and odds are you'll get into heaven or nirvana or waht ever you believe in.
