The mormon's book of mormon references these animals being in the americas in biblical times. There's absolutely nowhere else that I can find a reference to these animals.

ok, yes, I found a reference also that it's mentioned in the book of mormon. But, there's not a reference to any other use of the words. Doesn't that seem odd? Or is that the truth the mormons have that noone else does?

they also mention elephants, which definitely weren't in the americas at that time.
I dont' know how they can even say with a serious face that it was some kind of wildcat. It says that the animals were useful to men.

They say it was a large animal so Mammoths get the edge over Jaguars or Tapirs

A Curelom, or 'Fabricatus Delirium', is based on a 19th century phenomenon "The Big Thing Under the Bed", especially if the bed was used for pre-polygamatic exploration or as a contact point for angelic instructions.
A Cumon is remarkably similar, save for aversion to doing any actual work, hence it's latinized name 'Fabricatus Delicatum Dandi' label.
Both are useful to Man, but women find their fanciful demeanor rather exotic if not desirable. Some have suggested erotic, but this remains conjecture despite many signed affidavits.

Unfortunately, there is nobody that can help you with that. The Mormons contend that these 2 are like leviathan in Job - unknown. A lot of speculation has been made about what these are, but nobody has been able to arrive with a conclusive answer.

Some references in the Book of Mormon were "translated" or "interpreted" into words that are understandable to us in our time, and some were not. These animals were apparently common to the peoples in some part of the American continent in ancient times. Perhaps there are now extinct. Perhaps they were not common to anything that we might be able to identify with now.
I have heard speculation that they might have been llamas or alpacas. But, that is just guessing. Just what they might have been is not known at this time.

I'm pretty sure the Nephites had their own Flying Circus, so you're dead wrong about the Elephants.
Cureloms and Cumoms were monkeys that rode around on the Elephants back in the big ring event.

The most common guess seems to be that they're mastodon or mammoth-like creatures, from what I've seen, but some people also guess at a sort of wildcat.

No one knows, it could mean beasts of burden, or Mastodons and Mammoths, some Central American animal Smith was unfamiliar with such as the llama, alpaca, tapir, or jaguar, or it could be some undiscovered possibly extinct species.
In my book, it was made up gibberish from our creative prophet Joseph Smith.
