It's not me, by the way...I'm honest!!! Anyway, it's my friend who I really like, and she is obssessed with a video game character (from KH2 to be exact).
I told her I like her; she never said that she felt the same way but she didn't turn me down either. I have a feeling that AT LEAST I have a chance with her.
Back to the topic, whenever she talks to me, she portrays this video character as just that...a character who doesn't exist. BUT I found out that she lets her friend draw a cartoon image of her and this character (not in a sexual way, but somewhat in a romantic mood, like holding hands), and she would be practically drooling over them. Plus I found one of her online journal entries saying why she's crushing on video game characters and not real guys; she mentioned that they're safe and cannot hurt her (ie break her heart), so I responded to it.
Anyway, what I wanted to find out is is that kind of thinking normal? Is she the only one who's crushing on a game character?

I think all of us girls have done that at least once in our life. But she's a little over the top. Talk to her, and show her reality. Let her know how happy she can be with someone in real life. She needs to find out sooner or later that she can't crush on a video game character for the rest of her life. Maybe she's playing videogames just a little too much. Take her outside, to the real world (movies, the park, etc.) so she can look around and stop thinking about her video character all day.
I'm sure once she matures more and gets older, she'll change. Perhaps, if you can't change her ways now, you can wait until later.

It's not any more peculiar than the way young kids will get crushes on popular singers, actors, etc. Those are "safe" because they are at a distance and there is virtually zero chance that the idol will ever have any contact with them. Sounds like she wants to be careful. This crush is silly but harmless, unless she goes through adulthood this way. You didn't mention the ages of any of these people. If she's 15--normal. If she's 30, this is a problem.

i dont think crushing on a game character is a bad thing... but obsessing is a different thing and i think your friend is obsessing... theres been characters on games that are cute and maybe a little sexy but ive never taken it to extremes like that... maybe shes into that kind of thing though... some people are

i think its not like she wants to be a cartoon and actually be this guy she just wants to pretend she has someone who would never hurt her... she's probably mending a broken heart that maybe you don't know about... its not that weird maybe a little over board but like i said its probably bc shes hurting... i have crushes on fictional book characters bc i just love fictional guys but thats bc i would want my boyfriend to be like these guys because they are very passionate and thats probably what your girl is hoping for as well... someone that she can create to be perfect for her.

uhmm...no she isn't the only one. there're lots of girls that are like that but i'm not sure if they're that serious o.o for exmaple, lots and i mea LOTS of girls just absolutely adore Sasuke Uchiha from the anime Naruto
