Of course, everyone knows illegal immigration is abundant in America, many against, many for.

But before we are so quick to pick a side and stick to it till the bloody end, why not examine both side's arguments and draw a personal conclusion, right?

First, before we may make accusation of people, we must set ourselves in their shoes and ask ourselves for a motive.

The crime: crossing the border. Motive: ?

Many would say the motive is for a better life. This is not so. In fact, most Mexicans crossing the border come here for three main things: life, freedom, and family

You see, in Mexico, who's government is grossly corrupt, hardly anyone is 'free.' you can find this pleasure easily in America.

In Mexico, death hovers amongst many. And if not death, surely the possibility. Poverty and hunger brings about this sort of thing.

And in Mexico, family is everything. If family is threatened, there is nothing that can stop the determination to fix family.

There is but one burning hope that can ensure the survival of life, freedom, and family. And that hope lies within the borders of America. "Surely anyone can do it the legal way," you say. But is that truly so?

Entrance into these United States requires chiefly knowledge of America (history, flag, states, cities, etc...), money, English skills, and time. The thing is, some Mexicans do not possess all of these requirements and to gain them would take even more time, which death surely does not wait for.

The longer the wait to America, the greater the threats on life, freedom, and family become. But most people would never leave these in the line of any threat. So they (ones who do not possess the requirements to enter legally) take the only option left that would ensure the survival of the three treasures.

So they look at the path. Pain, suffering, and death on one side yet hope and survival lies on the other. And what lies in obstruction? But of course, the law forbidding the secret entrance into America. When weighed on a scale of priorities, surely any person would take life, freedom, and family over the compliance with one law.

Now, you have stepped into the shoes of those desperate ones. Of course, there are those who wear a different pair and take to this land for selfish desire, but the majority of those desperate come here for the reasons I have explained.

Please, what are you thoughts?

Sergio- I am very impressed by your insightfulness. You are obviously an intelligent young man, and, you show an incredible amount of empathy. You recently posted about your work ethic. I am impressed that you are able to "hold your own" at 16 against adults, and, you speak quite eloquently. Keep it up, kid! You are doing great! I predict great things for you.

One thing you forgot: quotas make it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to come here legally. PERIOD. So, You either do it illegally or you potentially watch your family die. I don't think people are heartless- I think they don't truly understand.

If we want tob e humanitarian, we should allow those who suffer the most in first. Mexico has it better than mostt nation. Every illegal immigrant working in the farm is stealing a job from a legal immigrant. Thai who is economically less fortunate than Mexicans are denied in, because Mexicans are filling a job that a legal immigrant can do. There is no limit on legal immigration for farm workes other than need. GDP per capita for Mexicans 55. THailand 89. Thailand malnutrition 13.4 million. Mexico is 5.1 million. There are worse people off than the THai too. I've been using them as an example, becasue I read an article in importing them for laborer recently.

Edit. By the way there are 200 million starving people in India. DOuble the population of Mexico. China is a little over 150 million.

I gave you a star because I an I am sure most of my fellow Americans have sympathy for the people of Mexico who are in a desperate situation. I believe our resentment is from feeling dumped on by our own government for not putting our needs first. Most of us can't fully understand how things could be so bleak since we have never been in that situation. Having said that,we still would like to have people in our country legally so we can know if we have criminals ect. just entering our country at will.We pay taxes for the services our government gives out and we would only like those services going to citizens or legal residents. I also really do believe that if the people of Mexico didn't alienate the people of the USA we would go the extra mile to help them with any changes they wanted in their own corrrupt government. If they want to make changes make home, we would surely hep them any way that we could. I have visited some communist countries back in the 1970's and I have seen people who were desperate to get away.Things have changed for them now and I am sure that things can get better in Mexico to if the people stand up to the system.

Plain and simple...

the life you describe is exagerated. Immensley. It is not a dire situation they live in.

but...lets say it was...

our goverment hands over billions...not millions...but billions of dollars to help/feed/shelter and dress illegal aliens. The money that is given to illegal aliens is from american tax payers. This money that is being spent should not be spent. The border policy we have is not being enforced. This is a drain on economy. Wasted money being spent on avenues that should not be taken. I am sorry for the poor that try and come here. But if they can not meet the requirements then they should not be allowed. You do not ask a mechanical engineer to do open heart surgery. Now I know that may be a drastic example, but the fact remains. Life is unfair sometimes. To call me selfish because I long for a prospourus and uncorrupt nation is off. To call someone a criminal who commited a crime by coming to the united states illegally is a true statement.
Illegal aliens are a drain on society in almost every facet. From jobs, to crime, to wasted tax dollars. It would not benefeit america to allow illegal aliens to remain in america. I am sorry. But go ahead and call me a racist and selfish...and whatever else you want to. The fact remains though. 100% of illegal aliens are criminals. If our government gives amnesty to 20mil illegal aliens then justice and the laws have not been upheld.
In this time when terrorism is threatened every where in america. Now is not the time to allow illegla immagrints into america. Who knows how many terrorists there are. The FBI investigated taliban and other terrorist cells coming to america through mexico. We need to strengthen our borders.

im done rambling...

You are right. Today I had a serious talk with my mom about illegal immigration. I asked her why do people pay a coyote to help them cross the border when they can just do it by applying for a visa? The truth IS that the US requires someone with a "special skill" or education. My mother was lucky because she was a professional and co-owner of my grandfathers company in El Salvador (no thanks to the commies did they lose that business, but that's another story) Without it they cannot come in the US. So what does that mean? That basically means that the poor (who are mostly uneducated and unskilled) can NEVER have an opportunity to come in this country legally. This is the situation that many face and why many choose to enter illegally in the country. What are we or they to do? You know, as a country with much clout, we can persuade these nations these people come from, to provided better services for them..before you get all "I'm liberal crap" this is basic government. There must be something that government can do help these people like providing them with the jobs (like persuading companies to bring their businesses there, with good livable wages), etc. Governments like in Mexico are currently extremely corrupt. Ever hear of that Mexican president who stole millions from the public's money and got away with it? That's what I mean. So, I say to all Americans, why not persuade our politicians to persuade other governments to provided at least livable wages to these people. By doing this you'd solve the majority of illegal immigration problems, but some people think it's not our problem..thing is, AS long as illegal immigration keeps being a problem, it will always be our problem. Nothing is black and white.

all you say may be true but in doing so they must assume that once here they will have no freedoms that ones who take the legal route.
they must also expect to be arrested and deported once caught.
if you decide to sneak across the border and take up residence illegally then you have decided to take the consequences of that action.
those consequences are ....
1) no freedoms.
2) low wages.
3) no education.
4) no health care.
these are just a few things that only illegals must be willing to accept.
if you want better then you must be a citizen.

My thoughts are, for all of the supporters, legal and illegal alike screaming human rights and La Raza "the race", in the United States, how about doing the same in their own countries, such as Mexico? I mean, they are "the race" aren't they? So passionate about their people and country pride (I know that because I worked at the state capitol when they were raising Mexican flags and stomping on the US flag in plain sight) it would be logical for these groups to stick it to their own government. Afterall, they are La Raza...

I agree with you that Mexicans come to America for a better life and that most of them are decent, hard-working people looking for a job.
But I still feel that America's borders should be secure for 2 reasons:
1) America cannot absorb an unlimited number of immigrants
2) Along with decent Mexicans, some very indecent terrorists can enter the country.

I hear you and your points are valid, but....we cannot sit back and let our country turn into Mexico. Which it will, no doubt about it, we cannot take care of millions without it breaking this country. It has already had a major effect on our hospitals and school systems. We cannot support millions that are dragging our wages down dramatically, while the big corporations get rich off of it. Eventually, it will be just like Mexico, a chosen few very rich and the rest all living in poverty.
We cannot let that happen, its obvious a lot of our politicians don't care because they all are very rich, and the hell with the rest of us. They have plenty to last them till the day they die and do not care what happens after that.

i agree people should definitely look on both sides of an argument especially one as controversial as this and im so glad you brought that up because a lot of the people on yahoo answers are so closed minded! and i have many mixed feelings about this...for the most part i agree with your points it is difficult to come to america legally and just because people have to resort to coming here illegally it does not make them criminals and shouldn't be treated as such...but i find it funny how you think mexico is just pain, suffering, and death because really it isn't. and fail to undertsand how you think a better life doesn't include life, freedom, and family??

Could the USA survive if all the people in all the countries around the world who wanted to immigrate to the USA did so?

Of course not!

Should the USA have a say as to who immigrates to the USA? Of course, every country has the right to decide who comes within it's borders.

So why do the cowardly peons and the corrupt Mexican government officials believe that has some "right" to come here?
