Happier, maybe not. Better off, definitely. I do agree with you.

It is like that sometimes with intellect. Very many intelligent people have feelings similar to what you are saying, that it would be easier to just be dumb. I tried it, I got a job in a factory doing mindless work, and it was fine for a short time, but, in reality, I knew I couldn't stay at that job. Atheists are under pressure all the time, turn on the TV and you get assaulted by the people with an imaginary friend. Answer the door on Saturday morning, same thing. Go to almost any government building and there are the commandments. Well, like I always say, "thank god I'm an atheist". thank you.

It would be nice to truly believe. However, our intelligence does not allow us to. However, I feel that we should be proud. We are the only ones who really believe that we only have one shot at life and I think it makes us appreciate it more. Religion is consoling in those terms. However, I prefer truth over consolation. Think about it this way. If you were dying of cancer and had 6 months to live, would you rather the doctor tell you you've been cured or know the truth. I'd choose the latter.

As an atheist I never get depressed because knowing that there is nothing after this, it gives me a purpose in this life to do my best to make the world a better place for future generations.

Yeah, but I get over it.
Look at it this way: there's no point in getting depressed over it because the end is the same for all of us anyway. So why worry about it?
And as to what will happen to after we're gone? We won't care about that once we're gone. So why worry about it?
That is in the future. This is now. Enjoy it while you've got it.

First you might want to check into these beliefs instead of having such an arrogant yet uninformed person. By actually opening your mind to the possibility of their being things you might not be able to completely understand you might find you have become more enlightened and possibly relieve yourself of some of the stress you are under. You might find ( by acytually looking into it) that we are not nearly as ignorant as you have been brainwashed to believe.
Let me clarify this If I came to my beliefs through study and ibtrospection and life experience as well as years of education you get to refer to me as brainwadshed yet if you are referred to this way after talking about your youthful angst Your decision is based on deep thought and you have been insulted.? Take a Dale Carnegie course along with studying your Torah seriously.

I've actually thought the same thing from time to time. In other words, ignorance is bliss. If we could simply be so naive and gullible as to believe those things, death wouldn't be so scary. After all, that is exactly why man invented religion.

Doesn't concern me at all. If nothing else, eternity is a long time to waste worshiping the higher being, so realistically, I hope that I'm right. The break after so many years of living will probably be nice.

Knowing there are certain laws in the universe that cannot be escaped makes you much further ahead than the average person. Knowledge cost you innocence. Ignorance is bliss - just look at someone who is retarded - they are so innocent, so blissful, so unaware of the laws of the universe.

May I as a Child of God say I respect you for your honesty; and may I say also, not to throw away those times and consider long and hard at them, that there may be truth coming to you~ I would welcome you to be with us in that Holy City
no-one is going to be floating around with wings and harps; let me share a word with you regarding God's Kingdom
Please excuse the copy and paste: it saves so much time and
I wasn't sure you had a Bible so here it goes:
10And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
16And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
17And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
18And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
22And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
