My theory on the cloning delima is that people are scared that if they prove you can clone a human being then it will prove religion wrong in that we could have just came to be... Does anyone else have a theory other than they think it is immoral

my guess is those who oppose don't understand that the clones are real people too. just like identical twins. i mean, they'll look just like you (in theory), but if anyone's taken psychology... they'll know that behavior and stuff (which is why people are scared of cloning hitler...) is very influenced by environment, its the whole nature versus nurture thing. no matter what, clones wont live the exact life of their... person?... and therefore wont be exactly the same. most people don't understand that to be a clone, you start off as a baby. you don't immediately become exactly what you were cloned after. that sheep... molly or whatever... was a baby at somepoint. the sheep she was cloned after and her are at different ages, and will always be at different ages...

for the religion part... people say you shouldn't play god, and there's legit reasons. when man try to "play god", bad things go wrong sometimes. but, bad things happen when Man puts his hand in ANYthing, so its not much different. and who says its playing god? isn't that just an opinion? ask anyone who follows the "dont play god" theory if they believe in abortion, capitol punishment, or better yet, MEDICINE. isn't taking medicine for headaches or anything... playing god? you're not letting your body do what it does naturally... which is to heal. if we were totally not play god, we couldn't take ANY meds, for that's interferring with god's plan. yet, who wont take aspirin for headaches? so pretty much those "dont play god" people are just scared that they'll be a bunch of Hitlers or Mussolinis running around commiting sh!t-tons of genocides.. which wouldn't happen because people are moldable, especially from birth. different people have certain affinities, but affinities aren't definates.

Pretty much anyone opposed should git over themselves and think about the good that cloning can be, which includes certain medicines and medical procedures which may not be any different from tylenol and stuff at all... if you're so against it... don't partake in it... that's my theory

i'm for it by the way...

Well, Although I am catholic, I give you reasons not about morality to be against cloning.

A clone of somebody can commit a crime, and the source human not the clone can be put to jail. Although a clone is similar in a body to the source human, the mind and experience of a man or a woman cannot be copied.

To clone a man, a ton of experiments must be made. The possibility to kill the unsucessful first cloned humans is very high, so a murder.

An army of clones is an scary and dangerous proposal. Think about Star Wars.

A clone can replace the source man or woman, so an easy kill of the source man or woman can be made.

Clones can be used as disposable slaves or replacement parts but they will be still human, so they probably start a revolution for freedom.

Do you want bad politicians or celebrities cloned, so have not only one but a lot of baddies? Certainly not.

With today genetical ability a human clone can be made, although as Dolly the lamb shows the celular age of the source human is the same of the clone, so why gives a human being a celular age he do not deserve. That probably leads to a clone s' riot or something like that.

Well, I think there are a few reasons. One, if humanity can create another human "on its own," there would be no reason for a god. Another is the question of a soul. If you clone someone who has a soul, who's soul does the clone have? Only one can get into heaven as only one was created by god.

I add the caveat that I am an atheist, so I have no thought to cloning as being immoral. My worry is that cloning could have a flaw that we don't know about yet. It takes such a small percentage of something not turning out right with DNA that it wouldn't take much for something horrible to turn out. Maybe not on the first generation of clones but who's to say that if we start cloning people that in 5 generations of clones they develop genetic disabilities. Maybe not all the same but that there could be a definite breakdown pattern.

I would like to see cloning used to better ourselves as a natural being. Using stem cells to help with the ails that plague mankind. We don't need to recreate it. We do that enough on our own.

Of course, Have you watch the 6th day of Schwarzenegger? where they cloned someone like himself?

I am scared, that what if my husband found a clone of me, and had slept with her, Of course I will got mad, it wasn't me. And what if they created a clone of you, and your clone becomes a criminal and you are the one who's been picked up? Are you willing to do that.

The world population is so small that years or more, it may not be able to supply all human needs. Imagine a life in Africa, what if those kids were cloned and populations are multiplied? what will happen to them?

But why don't they try, If they could do it? I bet they just can't! Then they will be the ones who will proved that religions are wrong.

Its does not have to involve religion. It could be ethical, what happens to the clones that aren't perfect? The "defected" clones
as a result of clone testing. And if scientists do clone a human there could be a number of social factors. The clones could be seen as second class because they are not the original being, being seen as nothing more that spare parts for other human beings. Also imagine what would happen if certain bad people could clone themselves.

I do not think it makes any difference, cloned or not. Meat is meat, after all clones are born the same way as every other animal or person for that matter. So to all the nervous Nellies I say, if you don`t want it don`t eat it. And the so superior vegetarians, have you heard about bad spinach and the problems Taco-Bell has been having recently. No matter what you eat, if you are unlucky you will catch something sooner or later.

It's just insane. Only the rich and powerful will be able to clone. do you really want 30 George Bushes running around? I don't think so. Not to mention what will laws be concerning clones? Are they real people? Are they protected by law? Social security numbers? Even without religion it is a scary scary path.

Well, they feel that it is playing God, which they feel should be reserved for God alone. Then there's the argument that a being is created that is either A) Exactly like you or B) will lack a soul, since you've already got it. However, while the clone may be physically alike, it will still end up being it's own person, unless you can somehow exactly replicate all of the events of your life for the clone to live.

Look at it this way. Lets say that a humans DNA is just one giant computer program a millon times more complex that any program ever written. What if we give it a DNA virus?
What if we make our clones better than we are.Wouldn't we want to do that? What if i had 6 clones and one killed someone, would we all be jailed? Would my clones be my slaves?

Religious fanatics seem to have some opposition to about 50% of all major advances, perhaps it is because they realize that their ideology functions best in an illiterate, uneducated, backwards society. The farther we advance, the less relevant they become, and they know it. At some very basic level they realize fully that whether it's cloning or some advance yet to come, that eventually science will be what finally ends the reign of their petty little superstitions.
