I'm looking into getting a middle of the road LCD tv--a 32 inch Philips. I'm debating about whether I should save money and get the tv at Sam's Club or buy it from somewhere like Best Buy or Circuit City to get the extended warranty. I know nothing about tv's and what kinds of problems they have and how likely a problem is. Should I spring for the warranty? If so, how long is long enough? Thanks!

In New Zealand, Philips came up as the "Most Unreliable TV brand" over the last 12 months. So if set on one of these, I would strongly suggest an extended warranty! Most stores/companies offer up to a 5 year warranty, go for the longest, should only cost a few bucks more than a 2 or 3 yr one.

My recommendations:

SONY - No1 sales worldwide, and very reliable! New models have improved a lot.

PANASONIC / SHARP - Both very good also, with very low repair rates.

SAMSUNG - Great value for money, make the panels for Sony tvs!

Now the crazy thing is, we have hardly seen Philips LCDs back over last 12 months, but see sprinkles of everything else?!?! So I would still recommend an extended warranty on any LCD, because you never know, and the cost to repair can be very high!!

Definitely get the warrant and skip Sam's club... U never know when a part goes faulty in a TV... A technician will charge u three times the cost of what a warranty would cost to repair an LCD...

I would get a 3 Yr. extended warranty.
Even the best TVs have failures.
