Karen Armstrong's biography of the Buddha is good.
Stephen Batchelor's "Buddhism without Belief" is also good.
Anything by Thich Nhat Hahn would be beneficial.
Jon Kabat-Zinn's book "Full Catastrophe Living"
If you were to ask for a book that contained "everything about Christianity," it would be hard to find, because there are so many branches. Much of the same is true about Buddhism. I would recommend that you look in your local phone book for a Buddhist meditation center and get to know some of the practitioners.

A good book on Buddhism for beginners is "Eight Mindful steps to Happiness" by Bhante Gunaratana. And the 'eight mindful steps' of the book's title refer to the eight facets of the Buddhist path, which is known as the Noble Eightfold Path. Bhante G., as he is affectionately refered to, is just the kind of expert to explain buddhism; after all, he's been a monk for his whole life, practically. Enjoy.

The first book I read was "Sutra on the 8 Realizations of the Great Beings: A Buddhist Scripture on Simplicity, Generosity and Compassion" by Thich Nhat Hanh.
It is wonderfully concise and wise (and cheap!). A great primer.

Tibetan Book of Living and Dying is quite good. I've always found Calvin and Hobbes to point the way, too. Seriously.
