It depends on what state you live in and what type of drivers ed you take. I did Driver Ed In A Box and it was approved by my state so I got a discount on my insurance. Check it out and good luck!

It may. Each insurance company has different rules, most may offer a lower rate for insurance.
If it helps, when you just start driving, you are more than likely to be in an accident within two years of obtaining your license. With driver's ed, that will decrease the risk and you can avoid an claims.

You need a payed off 4 cylinder car for the least expensive insurance rates at your age. That muscle car your dad is giving up will cost a small fortune for insurance(would not happen in my house!). Drivers ed and a defensive driving course will help, but not enough.

Be sure to ask your provider first.
The more expensive ones like State Farm might give you 20% and the less expensive ones like Progressive might not give you a dime.
In the end, they all come out about the same. I recommend the course, you learn a few things a friend or family member over 16 might leave out.

Yes it does (unless you are with Progressive or Dairyland or assigned risk). There is a credit on the policy (built into the rate class) for taking it. There is a good student credit too if you maintain a B or better average in school.
