Gluten free is ALWAYS wheat free BUT wheat free does not mean Gluten Free. In other words, Gluten means the food product is derived from wheat, rye or barley. (oats are avoided on the gluten free diet but are naturally gluten free. But due to cross contamination they are avoided unless u can find gluten free oats. U can find them online or in health food stores.)
Wheat free foods may still contain, barley, rye or a derivitive which would be unsafe for someone with Celiac Disease, the most common reason for eating Gluten Free.

No. Gluten is found not only in wheat but in barley and rye as well. Unless the label explicitly says "gluten free" then it is not considered so and could cause problems for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

No, not at all. If you have celiac sprue (gluten intollerance/allergy) then you'll have to read product labels very carefully. If you have gluten intollerance, your body is reacting negatively to the gluten protein itself. If avoiding gluten is your issue, there are wonderful websites that share information about it - my favorite is Clan Thompson.

Not necessarily. Gluten is also found in Barley and Rye, and possibly some other grains (those are just the big 3: Wheat, Barley, & Rye).
