I am agnostic, but attended a Catholic wake tonight. I wasn't a part of the ceremony, but I was there.

No. Wakes are for the living.

Did you comfort friends and family of the deceased? Were you comforted?

I think it's a good thing that you went.

No. You're the opposite of a hypocrite; you're practicing what you preach, so to speak. The best thing about not being tied to a religion, is that you get to see everyone's religion firsthand. Experience and learn as much as you can before (if) you decide on a religion.

Don't feel bad just because you walked into a Catholic church, especially if the wake helped you in any way. Don't hold back if you feel like visiting a synagogue, or a temple, or a mosque, or a monastery either. You, as an agnostic, get to see the world for what it really is. That kind of freedom is something most religious people don't have, and something you should take advantage of.

If you need a practical reason, I've found that, especially after studying world religions for a while, the best way to know how someone thinks, or the way someone's culture works, is to study their religion. Most of everyone's history and culture comes from religion, and you've got an advantage over anyone who hasn't studied things first-hand whenever you interact with anyone if you know where they're getting their ideas.

You are certainly a hypocrite (we all are or have been) - but; you did no wrong in this standing around while the heathens did their ceremonies and burial rite stuff thinking it does something other than get a guy or gal in the ground fasterso that the smell of the dead body will not defile everything.

You are however contaminated with death - and the only way to rid you of this sin - this uncleanness - is to have the ashes of the red heifer to be administered according to the law - ...

Peace;

Well, hearing a bit of mass has never done any harm to anyone. Being present at a ceremony even if you don't believe in that faith does not make you a hypocrite, just a guest.

No, there is nothing wrong in seeing what other religions are like. You are definitely not a hypocrite, I have been to countless church services and I too am agnostic.

No, that doesn't make you a hypocrite, just a person respecting the passing of someone you cared for who had a different belief system than your own. No biggie - don't sweat it.

If you did not listen to it, I don't see how that can make you a hypocrite.
You attended a wake is all.

If you are an agnostic, why do you care? Who must you answer to if you are a hypocrite?
