where is a good place to get underage tattoos? san diego?

im in san diego visiting family, and im 17, and ive always wanted tattoos but thought there should be meaning behind them or from a special occasion or something, because its permanent obviously. well recently events have transpired that are perfect for tattoos, but again im only 17. im from the east coast, where if youre underaqge you just need parental consent. so i took my mom with me, but they told me that i myself have to be 18. whats the deal? is there anywhere on garner or something that wont ask for id?

Doubt it. You shouldn't get a tattoo. It is permanent. FOREVER! Saw a tv show where a woman, who got one when she was younger, was trying to get it removed. It looked quite painful.

Most tattooers DO NOT ask for you to be 18! I got my first tattoo when I was 14 and my mom signed a a paper, as my legal guardian, saying she authorized me. I got another at 16, same procedure. When I got my third at 18, she didn't have to sign anything else! I'm getting my 4th on Monday! YAY!
Having said all that, I think you should just keep looking. There shouldn't be a problem since your mom is ok with it. You can try and get a court order with your mom's permition, but then, it would take a while, and since you're already 17, it'd be better to wait. But I really think that there are places that will just ask for your mom's consent.
And about you getting a tattoo, you have the absolutely right idea. Tattoos should have a meaning. And we, that have them, know that no matter what people say, those meaning are part of our lives and will stay forever. That's why we chose them on the first place.

Good luck finding a place. There are a few who don't ID but I am not sure where is San Diego. I found a place where I live, sorry not naming the place don't want to get them in trouble, and she is 16. I have heard that the federal law does not take place until Jan 2008 so you may want to check on the status of that. If it is not in effect yet then you can be 16 with parental consent. If it is in effect, the either you have to find somewhere that doesn't ID(very hard to do), or wait until you are 18. The federal law is for every state, so even when you go back home, if the law is in effect, you'll just have to wait.
On a side note, make sure that you are positive that you want this. My daughter had her design picked out when she was 14 but we made her wait. This is a permanent thing and while I have no problem with them just be sure. Good Luck to you.

You should be able to find a shop that allows you to get a tattoo with parental consent. There is no law requiring the person being tattooed to be 18, they just have to have permission from a parent or legal guardian!

That's crazy they told you that you had to be 18. Just keep looking, you'll find a place.

no reputable shop would break the law and tattoo someone who isn't legally of age. Don't worry, you've got less than a year to go!
