Heartworm treatment is dangerous and any side effect needs to be reported to the vet right away.
Hard coughing is not normal and could be a sign of a serious complication.

Did he have heartworm? If so, I would at the very least call the vet and tell him your dogs symptoms and see what the vet says. That does not seem right and could mean a problem.

Definitely call the vet right away. Treatment for heartworm (as opposed to preventative) is serious and this is a bad symptom.

I think it is normal. The heartworms are dying, and some of them get into the lung tissue and the ventricles of the heart, and cause a cough as the body tries to rid itself of them.I would call your vet just to make sure, though. Good luck, and I hope your dog makes it through treatment.
It can be a sign of complications. Here is a link for you.

I had a dog who went through this treatment, and my vet mentioned that some of the dying worms could end up in the lungs and cause lung infections. If it were me, I would take him back to the vet for a check. You will feel better for it.

He might be allergic. You probably should take him back in the morning to the vet where he gotten his shot or call the animal hospital to see what they can tell you,
