I was in the Navy and you do get your job in a contract.
Just don't let them sign you up as a grunt and tell you to go after the job once your in.

Yes the Army is the only service that can guarantee to you a specific job, the other services go by career field. Your recruiter can reserve you your job using the FSR2 system that is unique to the Army. The recruiter can do the same thing that the service counselors do at the MEPS. So your recruiter can get you a guarantee in writing for the job specialty you want. Good Luck Future Soldier.

This accurate type of information is unavailable on Yahoo Answers.
You must visit with, or telephone your hometown military Recruiters for the very latest information. (A visit is best when getting your information.)
Right now, start making a list of all the questions you can think of. When the time comes, take your list of questions with you to the hometown military Recruiter and "pick their brain" to ensure all your questions are answered.
Also ask what types of high school courses you would also need to graduate high school, which would be to your advantage for your potential future job, when enlisting in the military.

now a days, recruiters have direct access to the army's main frame telling you what jobs are open and need to be filled. 4 years ago when I joined you had to go directly to MEPS to do that. So, if your ASVAB scores are high enough for your desired job, and the job is available, they can get it in writing right then and there.
A pointer here, most of the combat MOS's have training in some really cool high tech gizmo's and computers. Just to keep in mind.

I agree with Mary - make sure it's in the contract. I went in with a guaranteed specialty (AF) in my enlistment contract, so that's the job I got. Verbal promises and assurances don't mean anything.

Read, read, and reread your contract before you sign it. The MOS you are going in for will be stated on your contract. And it doesnt matter if it is on another piece of paper, make sure that it is on your Enlistment Contract.
Good luck

depending on what scores you get when u take your job placement test determines what "jobs" youll be able to go for in AIT...the higher the numbers the better chances you have to get your computer job...if i remember correctly excellence in math nd problem solving/strategy questions in the cooresponding sections of the test will help get you this...neone who does NOT let you see what jobs you qualified for should be reported for it is part of their job...you have a right to know

you get a guaranteed slot in school that's it. Graduating is all on you.. oh yeah, and if, once you graduate, the Army decides they need you somewhere else.. they can and will make you reclassify.
