My opinion is: if it is in your own home, and your husband expels gas without thinking about it, then you can . . . . . . . LET ER RIP!
You have a right to be comfortable in your own home.

It's lack of education. It's an unfortunate accident when it happens, but that is a no-no-no.
No one is excused!, even the oldest people are not excused, but due to their ages, they can't help it, and even that, people get grossed out.
Unless you are between the ages of 0 to 5 and 80 to 100, you have no excuse.
Sometimes you can get to the bathroom and can do it, but the best advise, watch what you eat. It's the safer way......

Of course you can help it. Just as you notice yourself about to "expel", excuse yourself and go to another room.

If possible you should excuse yourself before you pass gas, but if it happens just say excuse me, hopefully your dinner companions will be mature enough to let it pass.
