Two things to do. Get educated and ask the doctor why the mastectomy and make sure it makes sense. Second, get a second, and even a third opinion.

I have breast cancer. I had five different recommendations. Masectomy was one of them. Instead, I am getting a third surgery for re-excision-just taking more out. I have found that many doctors tell you what to do when it is just their opinion. GET EDUCATED and understand. Then second or third opinion and finally make her own decision.

I am guessing you mean 2 tumours rather than 2 cells!

Breast cancer is normally treated by the removal of the tumour followed by chemo or radiation if needed, and sometimes follow up oral medication, depending on biopsy.

If there was only 1 small tumour, clearly defined, in a largish breast, a lumpectomy would probably be the way to go.

With 2 tumours in the one breast, a mastectomy is probably the only option.

Once they have done a full biopsy of the tumours they will decide if further treatment is needed.

Treatment of in situ cancer is very depends on what kind cancer she growth, these are :

radiation therapy
hormonal therapy
chemotherapy

Doctor's treatment decission depends on stage, type of cancer, metastatic, etc.
