Because to believe in God requires faith not fact. There are a lot of people that want fact only and will not allow themselves to be run by faith alone.
God does not do good or bad things to people in there lives. He allows them to make choices. Believing or not believing is a choice that he allows.

It isn't a difficult task to not believe. The hard thing is to actually believe. Believing takes effort. You have to convince yourself every day that what you think is real is in fact real. To not believe takes no effort at all. Simply put it out of your mind and go on with your life. A great deal of self searching and pondering the mysteries of life requires resources that for some people are better spent on doing the things that we need to do to survive. God is an entity we cannot be certain of and as such is not needed by people who are more concerned with things that are more tangible. No arguing your faith can make another person see things as you do. People believe or don't and it's entirely their business and has no effect on your beliefs.

"why is it hard for non believers to believe that God is real?"
Because I have read the bible and studies religions and religious beliefs I find them all to be fairy tales written by man to control man...
I do not see any reason to believe in fairy tales do you..
"This is inspite of all the good things that God have done in their life."
What are you claiming your god has done in my life I don't see a thing as fairy tales don't jump off the pages of books..
A request for all the religious people get together can come up with some new material what you are working with is 2000 years old and stale.. Thanks...

WOW! You really sparked some hatred on here! As a side note, I think it's funny that non-believers say that Christians are so mean, hateful and arrogant...yet when I view answers to questions like this one I mostly see lost people doing the very thing they are accusing believers of.
To answer your question, they don't believe because God has not allowed them to. Their eyes are blinded to the truth.
God is showing so much mercy in their lives yet they refuse to accept it. It's called pride. The Bible says every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. They turn a blind eye to the truth now, but one day they will realize it wasn't all fairy tales.
The great thing about this, is that I am going to get so much negative feedback for this answer. I can't let people's hatred stop me from telling them the truth.

there is no proof that god exists, or that god exists the way you think god exists, or the way my mother thinks god exists, or the way the folks from different religions all think he exists. everyone has their own interpretation of what god is and what god does and the roll god plays in life
this would not be true if god was a tangible thing, a factual being. if god were a tangible being we'd all have more similar perspectives of what it is.
There is a wide spectrum of beleifs and levels of faith and there is room for all of us. Your perspective is just as sane, just as important and valuable as that of an agnostic or athiest.
If I beleived in god I would beleive that god doesn't care if you believe in him as much as he cares about what you do and how you live and how well you accept and love others in your world.
Why do you care if people believe or not? I think it's because you have a desire to control others. And the reason why many people don't beleive in god is because people often use threats of god's wrath in order to control the masses. and we're not having it.

There is no evidence that a god is real, or that gods have done things with my life or the lives of any other people.
We are responsible for helping ourselves. Why did so many children die in the nineteenth century from contaminated food and simple diseases, but so few die today from these things (if you live in the West)? Simple: They didn't have science. The universe is hostile to our very existence. Without cultivating knowledge (not religion), humans wouldn't survive for long. This is one reason among many that I find the concept of a deity quite a stretch.

do not tell me i don't comprehend. I had faith, lots of it. It became into all I had for an prolonged time. It became into the only element that would ever cheer me up. yet what killed it became into not something tragic, I in basic terms thought approximately it. i found out that those sense-stable thoughts I have been given from praying and connecting to God, nicely, people get those while they pray to Allah, or meditate or pray to Vishnu, or notwithstanding, and that i knew none of those gods have been actual, so then how is it mine is actual and theirs are not even nonetheless we sense an analogous issues? do not tell me i don't comprehend or it would not make any experience, because of fact while i found available is not any God I felt like a buddy had died. EDIT: ok, however the sentiments I had of being with GOD are an analogous emotions that Buddhists get whilst meditating, and that faith is fake. the sentiments I had are an analogous that Muslims have been given whilst praying to Allah, and that faith is fake. would not it make experience from this that each and each non secular guy or woman is fooling themselves? If I try challenging adequate i will nonetheless "sense" God, nonetheless sense that happiness, yet i comprehend it is all in my head.

Many cite the Problem of Evil as evidence. If God is supposed to be omni-benevolent and omni-powerful and yet evil still exists (obviously God could do away with it at any time) then there must either be no God OR God is not omni-benevolent, etc.
I've heard that many think religion/God deprives one of free will and free action and thus to believe in God is to also cement oneself in a system devoid of choice and responsibility.
God-concepts seem to create fanatics and fanatics hurt and perpetuate violence so assuming there is no God is to, hopefully, remove an element that causes pain and hardship.
Famous question: Why do good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people? If this is so, then there must not be a God.
Believing in God without substantial proof (one has to admit there isn't anything hard-written or substantial to prove there is a God) is fooldhardy and irrational. One should believe in what one sees and further one should perpetuate ideals that are readily availble and testable in the real world (not written in the ephemeralness of deity).
Taking a leap of faith (as philosopher Soren Kierkegaard said) and believing in God is dangerous and ignorant.
I'm sure there are as many answers/reasons to not believe in God as there are to believe in God.

Why is it hard for you to believe Allah is real?
Why is it hard for you to believe Zeus is real?
Why is it hard for you to believe Ahura Mazda is real?
Why is it hard for you to believe the Invisible Pink Unicorn is real?
Why is it hard for you to believe the Flying Spaghetti Monster is real?
Why is it hard for you to believe Yoda is real?
Why is it hard for you to believe Gollum is real?
Why is it hard for you to believe Spider-Man is real?
There are thousands of gods you realize aren't real - the only one you think is real is the one your parents told you was real. Coincidence?
Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

zic: The answer is this, as found in the book of John, chapter 6, verse 44, "No man can come to me except the Father, who has sent me, draw him"... [paraphrased] K.J.V. - that's why! Believers believe because God has elected him or her to believe. Non-believers haven't been given the chance YET !!!
