Yes, you automatically fail if you cannot do all three types of parking...however, not all inspectors will ask you to do all three types of parking...for example...I only had to back in, and park normally..there was no parallel parking...
if you really are worried, here's the proper way to parallel park, it's fail-proof.
Step 1.) Pull your car up within inches and line your right side-view mirror with the left side-view mirror of the car you are parallel parking behidn of...(in other words, pull up as close as u can to the car that you would normally park behind of so that you are side by side, and the gap is like 2 inches)
Step 2.) Signal RIGHT-put car in Rear, and start backing in WHILE turning the steering wheel CLOCKWISE. If you do not turn while steering, you will either overshoot the car, or hit the car...both of which will fail you
Step 3.) lightly tap the brakes to slow you down, and when your right side-view mirror is lined up close/near the car's rear bumper, start turning the wheel counter-clockwise and continue backing in...by the tiem you think you might hit the car in front, your wheel should be turned all the way clockwise until it won't go nemore...
Step 4.) straighten car out, if need be
Pulling back out into traffic:
Step 1.) Signal left
Step 2.) turn steering wheel counterclockwise all the way
Step 3.) turn and look over left shoulder for traffic
Step 4.) IF CLEAR, pull out
NOTE: if you pull out and the car following u has to apply ANY brake at all...you will automatically fail, or if that car that has to brake is a police officer...you will automatically get pulled over and receive a ticket for "almost causing a collision" (i don't believe those are the actual names for the ticket, but it's somethign very similar)
Depending on where you will be taking your exam, you may not have to parallel park...
my friends all took their tests in the nearest DMV which happened to be in a city...and they did -highway, parallel parking, backing in, changing lanes, 3 pt turns (K turn), as well as passing a truck (isn't as easy as it sounds).
I took my test in my local town at the local driving school, and I did a 3pt turn, backed in, and drove around for only 15 minutes.
REMEMBER: when taking your test:
-take deep breaths, and calm yourself
-turn your phone off at all times of the test
-turn on your lights as soon as u get in the car, because it shows the instructor that you know what you're doing, and puts the instructor at ease...trust me, it helps to know that the instructor thinks you know what you're doing
Hope this helps, Good luck!

I'm taking the driving test in a couple of months and I don't think they fail you if you can't parallel park. I think it depends on how many points you have left at the end of the day, but I think there going to make the parallel parking much easier then what you expect.

I can't believe how many people here are hung up about parallel parking. It's not that hard, really. This isn't rocket science.
I've been driving 31 years, and probably haven't actually had to parallel park 31 times.

If it is part of the test, yes, they can fail you for it. Many States have gone to a different type parking test. It's like pulling into a parking spot at the mall and then backing out. Tests I have seen are divided into driving and then parking. failing either one means you fail the whole test.

They will not fail you if you did good on other things, but if the rest of the test is bad you will not pass.
